Great facilities and service. The room was really nice and comfortable (the Future Room), but it was impossible to sleep in the early hours of the morning because of the thumping music going at full blast. Not the hostel's fault, but it is an issue.

This hostel is in the center of town and that's about all it has going for it. It is literally in between two night clubs. While that might seem like a great thing it isn't if you're trying to get any sleep. I stayed in the lodge room and until 230 at night all you could hear was the screams and yells from the patio right outside the window and the bass from the clubs. If I could post a video I would. It is insane how loud it is. I asked for a refund so I could just go to a hotel and the manager told me that it clearly says you are above a night club. Then he pulled it up and showed me. We'll it says near nightlife. He basically said it was my fault for booking in the center of York. Like York is a large city known for its night life. He then told me that next time I should read everything before I book a place to sleep. Seriously, there are nicer and more quiet locations in this city. With staff that aren't rude or cocky.

Just what we were looking for! Spent the day in York and loved that we were in the town center. The private room had a comfy bed and the shower was fantastic. We loved the quirky graffiti art in our room (ours was medieval themed) and the layout of the common shared areas for guests. Plenty of tea, coffee and juice available for guests at all times! Be warned that you will need to be comfortable climbing stairs as the lift is rarely functioning. Also, as many have already mentioned, you can slightly hear the music from the restaurant downstairs, but as we spent our time on a Sunday, most of the music was finished by 11pm. Great for tourists, couples or those traveling solo!

Fantastic hostel, great facilities, central location, and the fantastic showers and fluffy towels! Staff from the attached bar can never do enough to help. During the week the bars around are hardly noticeable, at the weekend the supplied earplugs may be required. Complimentary tea, coffee & juice, free washing machines, hairdriers everywhere. The bed linen was crisp and white, did i mention the fluffy towels? Bathrooms including the ensuite had toiletries, sometimes wondered if staying a hotel. Loved it so much planning to stay again on our next trip to York.

Great location in the middle of town. The accommodation was basic but clean and comfortable. Unfortunately there is very poor sound proofing between the rooms. We were in room 5 and the couple in room 4 decided to have a full blown argument from 4am to 5am.

Excellent location, literally in the middle of everything. We had apartment 2 on the second floor and it was massive! Everything you could possibly need. Even a pint of milk and some tea/coffee were left in the cupboards for our arrival! It was very clean and modern. We stayed midweek so there wasn't a problem with noise like others have mentioned. I was a little worried when I realised this was a "hostel" ( I didn't read things properly, oops!) as it was booked as a break to take my 84 year old mum on but it was perfect. Would highly recommend. The ONLY thing I can say which is slightly negative is that the stairwell could do with been a bit better lit as it was very dark but that's just a suggestion as I was worried about the old dear falling over in the dark !

What a fab place! Staff are very friendly, professional and attentive. My simple room (The Ocean Room) was clean, with funky local artists decor and a great en suite wet/shower room. Comfy beds and functioning TV. The location could not be better for central York activities. I was there with my teenage daughter and it worked perfectly for visiting the Viking Centre, Boat cruising and shopping. You don't even have to leave the street to eat. Kennedy's Bar (below The Fort) took care of lunch and has some great vegan options. Thanks to James and the Fort team for a very enjoyable weekend.

Stayed here over the weekend, plenty of useful facilities, friendly staff. Left something in the room and Karen was very helpful over the phone and is sending it down to me - would thoroughly recommend staying here!
