Had lunch over the weekend. Found the menu extremely limited for children. Maybe options like pasta or pizza would be a beneficial option. Waitress was sloppy in appearance and her etiquette left a lot too be desired. Dining room though in keeping with the building could have updated furnishings . Tables had seen better days!

Came in earlier this evening and very much enjoyed the cosy atmosphere of the place. Great drinks on offer and at reasonable prices. Only downside was the barman with tattoos who served me couldn’t muster conversation, a smile or showed any real customer service skills. Shame a staff member ruins such a nice establishment! Low score is for that reason I’m sad to say! Take note young man!

This is our second trip and it now going to be a yearly tradition for Hubby's birthday. All of the staff are so great and can't do enough for you and are such good fun. They all work so hard and do it with a smile. Special mention to Stacey and Dan not to leave Paul out. Highly recommend it to anyone wanting a great time in a lovely City.

First pub and first picture. Can’t understand how it turned out like this when other photos were fine. I’d not even had a drink :) bar is small but lovely and cosy. It has a garden area at the back but as it was January it was still a bit to cold to sit out there sun shining and all. Great view of York cathedral. A one minute walk to the shabbles which was great.

We had room 11, in the back part of the old property. It seemed a little strange to be in a room directly next to a back eating area, but it was not a problem at all. It was a great spacious comfortable room with lots of character. The staff were all incredibly friendly. We had medication for my girlfriend that needs to stay refrigerated, they put it in the kitchen fridge no problem. We checked out and returned for lunch for the steak pie. It was so good, I cut in to it and saw god. It was definitely, and always will be worth the made-to-order wait time. I would absolutely come back for room 11, and stay here again and again!

Very disappointed for the price charged compared to other city centre inns we have stayed in. We had a garden view room which was situated right in the main beer garden and as the window pane was rotten and single glazed it was very noisy as people were seated right outside the window. The kitchen was next door and the industrial extractor fan was on until 01.30am and started again at 06.45am. The room was a decent size with full bathroom but decor was in bad repair. I have written to the management about these issues but they were not apologetic at all. I have given one star as the hotel is in a central position, the breakfast was fine and staff were not rude but would certainly not stay here again or recommend the room we were expected to have an enjoyable stay in.

Booked a table at the restaurant for my partners Birthday, was a little worried it was outside, but with the outdoor heaters and the gazebo we were toasty warm. The food was incredible, if you are going to try anything on the menu order the Guy Fawkes pie, perfection in pastry. Service was fantastic, atmosphere was busy but not loud. If you are near York Minster pop in for a pint and something to eat.

Absolutely fabulous. Great place to while away the hours, loved the historical factor. Food was pretty good. Staff were abrupt and a bit off putting to be honest. I'd certainly return in the hope that staff training had been carried out.
