Unpretentious, comfy hotel. Food good quality. Staff genuinely friendly...thank you. Good value. Nice grounds, if we could just change the weather to explore would've been perfect!

Loads of character, stunning location, huge room (deluxe double). Staff were friendly and welcoming, especially the man who did every job from receptionist, waiter, and gofer.... I think his name was Fabio, he was brilliant, a real credit to the hotel. Food was excellent, though evening menu was a little restricted. Covid 19 precautions were spot on. Will definitely be back 🙂

Staff were generally friendly and helpful. However the approach seems to be to give the shabbiest rooms to the shortest stays - so be warned there are some old rooms that are really not like the photos on the booking websites. The management kindly agreed to provide another room when we complained that the one they provided looked nothing like the one in the pictures booked (I had screenshots of what I'd pre-paid for). Food and bar were fine enough - but the place definitely needs some updates though, most notably the old carpets. Location is good for forestry walks nearby.

Lovely place, great customer service and incredible prices. The rooms are slightly old fashioned but fits the beatiful theme of the entire building which almost feels like a castle! The food services for breakfast and dinner are lovely as well as it being highly dog friendly. Would highly recommend.

Was an ok stay. Our room was rather dated and old fashioned. It was also really noisy and we could hear all the other guests coming up and down the stairs and slamming doors as they went into their rooms, so wasn't very peaceful. But it is situated in nice enough grounds that you can enjoy a nice evening sat outside.

We stayed here for 3 days and I have to say it was an absolute pleasure, there were many little touches that had been well thought out and made us feel welcome and comfortable. The breakfast was nicely cooked and the couple of main meals we had were tasty and hot. The staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much. The only downside to our stay was that our room and the hall leading to it smelt a bit damp which is a shame because the room and bathroom were decorated nicely and looked great. On the upside the bed was extremely comfortable and the views were lovely.

This is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. The staff were wonderful and the room was lovely. It's so nice to find a dog friendly hotel that didn't put us in a room near the back !

Made a return visit feeling glad to have a break somewhere that feels very safe. We had lovely views from our room which was large and comfortable. Great breakfast choices and we enjoyed our evening meals. The public areas and grounds are beautifully maintained. Plenty of car parking. The hotel is well positioned for trips to the coast and Dartmoor for walking. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We are hoping to get back later in the year.

We stayed for three nights at this fabulous little hotel and it was our second visit here. You are greeted by what must surely be the most beautiful view from any car park in the country - we have several photos to prove it! It is such a stunning location, so quiet and peaceful. The staff at the hotel were amazing - everyone was friendly, helpful and welcoming. However, we must thank Michelle in particular for whom nothing was too much trouble and who went out of her way to make our stay enjoyable. Breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of cooked meals. In the evening, we dined in only once, but our meals were delicious and served quickly. A special thank-you is due to the chef who prepared one of the best Caesar salads my husband has tasted! Whenever we are in the south-west again, we shall endeavour to stay at the Lord Haldon.
