What a gem in the local historic Crown of York. A facet of local Cold War history that should not be missed. The guide that gave the tour was absolutely fantastic, blending a terrifying possible event with some dry humour (tastefully applied) and underlining the stark reality of local volunteers under the service of the Royal Observer Corps. Brilliant visit.

Amazing and informative place. Our guide was great and full of knowledge. It is so amazing that it is a historic property and yet really it wasn't even that long ago that nuclear war was such a threat. This makes it an absolutely incredible visit. Buy the guide book as it tells you lots of extras. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Great tour but would have liked a bit more time to have a look around. The tour guide was great, very knowledgeable and got the message home about just how terrible a nuclear attack would have been. Entertaining, yet respectful and thoughtful. I don't know the man's name, otherwise I would have mentioned him specifically; he was very good at what he does.

Been twice now. A very interesting place to visit when in York. The tour is only an hour long but is informative and gives you the feel of how the ROC would have had to live in the event of a Nuclear strike. Russia had Nuclear bombs trained on York (and probably still do), as the rail infrastructure goes in all directions of the compass.

Really informative and fascinating, also quite sobering and chilling. Guide was great and made it a really neat experience, so I definitely recommend making the short jaunt away from the city centre to investigate this place.

Fascinating insight into cold War thinking. Guided tour was just under an hour but really would have liked some time to meander around at leisure. Pity the Mod sold adjacent land - could have built a visitor centre and café.

Excellent informative tour guide. Well worth a visit and I liked that the cold War film at the start was just brutally honest about the effects of an atomic bomb.

Visited 26/08/19, as an ex ROC member I was very impressed at the tour, the guide was clearly very knowledgeable and professional but at the same time didn't go overboard with too many detailed facts which can often leave visitors slightly overwhelmed. I had been back to our old monitoring post at Broadway (Worcestershire) on Saturday (which is fully restored) so was nice to see a HQ fully kitted out. Very enjoyable and highly recommended.
