This museum is small but really informative - well suited for children and adults with plenty of activities for the kids to engage in while mom and dad enjoy all the information provided by the displays. Really really enjoyed this museum. Taught us so much about the history of York without being stodgy at all. Highly recommend.

What a great museum! It was fairly quiet on a Monday afternoon; a few school groups were going through, but they were well behaved and quiet. Here we were, two adults from America. I was there for the insights on Roman and medieval York, and the exhibits did not disappoint. We were at the British Museum in London not long before and it was showy and grand. I felt like I got more out of York’s museum because it was about the day to day lives, the stuff that interests me the most as a writer and history geek.

Great setting for a Museum, the staff are friendly and there’s enough there to keep you engaged however my attention faded soon after entry. They’ve done the best with what they have, so that’s good enough for me.

Interesting and well presented, particularly with a Richard III exhibition. The Roman aspect was also good and was intrigued to walk on a mosaic that the Emperor Constantine might have trodden on his visit. Helpful guides.

5/ 5

I would highly recommend a visit. A very enjoyable day, lots of exhibits ranging over many centuries through to the 1960s. To wide a range to list here, includes many local finds. I personally enjoyed the victoriana section, especially the narration by the resident local Bobby (member of staff) well done sir whomever you are. 10/10 from me.
