Very interesting local museum covering more social history rather than politics or military history.

4/ 5

Very interesting local museum covering more social history rather than politics or military history. Good areas on fashion, period furnishing, and children's games. Large section on the first world war and local peoples place in it. Easily worth the entrance charge.

Visited lasted week as I wanted to take a family member round and I'd not visited in an absolute age. I forgot how extensive it is! So many wonderful galleries and the Kirkgate street is just awesome. Absolutely loved talking to the Policeman, he was such a fountain of knowledge and really nice to talk too. My family member was just in awe wandering around and we had a great afternoon out! Highly recommended for sure đź‘Ť đź‘Ś đź’Ż

Came here a couple of days ago, and thoroughly enjoyed my visit. There is a lot to see here (we spent 3hours here) but obviously you can spend as much or as little time as you want. If you like to read the information posters on each section/display, you could well spend all day here! My favourite part was the Victorian Street, where you are propelled back to the past. I wish more museums did this immersive experience! Cost of admission is fair especially given that you can return for free as much as you’d like within a year. If you visit York, I highly recommend this museum.
