Very good couple of hours spent here with my children. Will definitely be returning. Very friendly, knowledgeable staff. This is not wheelchair friendly and the steps may also be a problem for individuals with limited mobility. No cafe or toilets but there is plenty near by, so not a big issue.

Not worth the long walk across town. Just some sign boards to read and little of interest. Couldn’t justify the entry free. Go to the Richard III experience on the other side of town. It’s much better and the gate towers are identical.

This is a sister museum to the Richard III experience at Monkbar and you can buy discounted entry tickets to visit these attractions being part of the same trust. The museum itself is very compact and looks at Henry VII and his association with York including the battles of his ancestors (Towton being the most famous)

Lovely little please full of history. I would've enjoyed more a guided tour, as reading all those sign boards got boring very quickly.

5/ 5

An interesting museum in Micklegate Bar on York Walls. This is something that York is really good at - breathing history alive from its ancient masonry and managing to make it fun and interactive for the little folk too. Micklegate Bar was the entrance that most royalty entered the city by. It was also the one that had grisly skewered heads on display on spikes back in the good ole days. Am sure most of us can think of a few current nominees.....

A small museum which can be accessed either from the wall or a flight of stone steps from the street. I found the staff very helpful. There are three floors linked by fairly steep wooden staircases. Not many artefacts to look at but a lot of information boards that are interesting but you need time to read and digest them properly. The top floor covers the life of Henry VII and also has an interactive play area for children. I personally found the middle floor exhibition, about life in medieval York, much more interesting. There's a gift shop at the entrance. If you love history this is well worth a visit.
