If you want to see a quintessential English pub, come here. An amazing range of ale on tap and the whole place is just the picture book British pub. Service is exceptional and prices are really reasonable too. I know there are 365 pubs in York but they'd have a tough time beating this one!

What a beautiful find, strolling around York we was looking for a dog friendly pub and restaurant! This is one of the oldest pubs in the UK, and the food and drink were lovely! We had the loaded nachos and fish fingers sandwich... was lovely! Quick service and easy to order. Thank you.

Super friendly staff and what history! We didn't see any of the ghosts, but I think our dog did! And if you are a fan of the book Jonathan strange and Mr Norrell, then it is a must do stop!

After coming here for nearly 15 years, a visit last week left a very sour taste in my mouth. After having a pleasant few hours talking with friends we moved tables as the one we had been on had been reserved. However, the way way we were treated / moved was nothing short of disgraceful. A small man who works there with a beard seemed to be highly irritated, maybe stressed? Fair to say it left our usually superb experience there a little tarnished.
