My partner and I had an absolutely fantastic roast dinner here today. We hadn't booked but they gave us a table straight away even though very busy. The roast Turkey was absolutely beautiful and my partners nut roast just as good she said. The food was cooked to perfection and was excellent value. Huge portions and quality ingredients. The chef knew what he was doing. The atmosphere was bubbly and friendly with a young team who were efficient and welcoming. We will definitely return and tell friends to try it. Top notch!

Good meal here this weekend but a couple of things lost them a star. Firstly the cream of tomato soup had never been near any cream and would have been great with some mince and spaghetti. Secondly, it always baffles me why restaurants can't take butter out of the fridge prior to service as there was no chance of spreading it on my bread which was just ripped to shreds. The roast dinners were lovely, both beef and turkey were done well and portion sizes were more than enough. Yorkshire puddings were disappointing, they pride themselves on how big they are but this comes at the expense of quality, they were just shells with no substance or flavour. Overall I'd go back, but not in a hurry.

The missus and I decided to check The Woodman out after it being recommended to us. It certainly did not disappoint! I had the duck and the missus had the seafood risotto. Possibly the best meal we've had in the York area! Cooked and presented perfectly. Staff were very welcoming and very informative. 11/10! Would recommend highly! We will certainly be returning.

Visited the Woodman as a family of 5 today for Sunday Lunch. I always think that you can tell what a place is going to be like by the feeling you get when you walk through the door. We walked in and we were immediately greeted by a warm and friendly manager. We were shown to our table and served by equally warm and friendly staff throughout the entire meal. We had our dog with us and she was made to feel equally welcome, the staff are not just dog tolerant but genuinely dog friendly. Our food was absolutely gorgeous. We didn't have starters but we saw some and they looked lovely. We had mains and desserts and every single one of us was happy. The meals were well cooked, piping hot and there was plenty to eat and it was well presented. The place was packed but there was absolutely no impact on the level of service. I always think a place that includes cauliflower cheese and extra gravy as standard without being asked is a great place! This is a lovely pub with a lovely interior, great atmosphere, lovely staff, gorgeous food at reasonable prices and is inclusive of dogs and children. We will be back again, absolutely loved it, thank you.

What a fabulous lunch today. Proper food presented well and with friendly service. We shared a seafood platter that looked and tasted so good. My wife chose a seafood rissoto whilst I went for the steak pie chips and peas. They did not disappoint. Our compliments to the chef and staff.

Woodman was surprising for first visit. Narrow frontage with a surprisingly long garden at the rear.

Woodman was surprising for first visit. Narrow frontage with a surprisingly long garden at the rear. Unfortunately our visit was a meet after a funeral so a little sombre. However, we will go back for a happier visit next time.
