Old Parsonage Hotel oxford

Had a lovely afternoon tea here to celebrate a dear friends birthday. The sandwiches were divine and the staff made such a wonderful effort - even bringing out a little birthday cake for her. Thank you so much for a beautiful afternoon. It was just what we needed.

The room was clean and well-organized but small just like a city hotel. There was no fruits and cereal bar at breakfast. But the taste of haggis was good. I loved the taste of tea. The staffs were kind enough.

Very expensive, mediocre tea. Taken here by my son and daughter-in-law as a treat. The ambiance and setting were nice and the staff were friendly. However despite a lovely catch up with my family,the experience of the tea was marred by the quality of the food.The sandwiches were limited; the scones were very dry; the cakes were uninspiring and the teapots were poorly designed so got blocked with tea leaves. All in all I felt embarrassed that my son had spent over £80 on a very substandard "Very High Tea" which bore no resemblance to the website photographs. The delivery fell significantly short of the promise, given the price charged.

Very nice hotel ... Beautiful and immaculate rooms with plenty of nice amenities, very friendly and helpful reception and in a great location – but the hotel is let down by the restaurant. Indifferent staff who seem to be more interested in their private conversations than serving customers. Strange tables with badly designed legs that make it very difficult to sit comfortably. The food is quite good, but the staff just didn’t seem very helpful. Typical event: one night we were brusquely told that as we hadn’t booked a table the restaurant was full (at the time there were two couples sitting down). I assumed there was a large party due to arrive so I asked if we could arrange room service as menus are not included in your room. He hesitated as though he didn’t know what to do, when someone behind the bar whispered something to him and he suddenly took us to a table. We ordered, had our (excellent) meal, signed the bill and left a two thirds empty room.

The atmosphere is lovely. The staff are lovely. And the food is lovely, for the most part. Unfortunately the dessert was awful and the abhorrent espresso served in a cold cup. I was asked 'did you enjoy it'. But sadly the waitress didn't look at me or listen to the answer. Also there didn't seem to be a manager present. Consequently the whole evening felt like a façade, rather than genuine desire for a customer experience. I hope this is a one off, as generally the place is... Lovely

This was an experience and the icing on the cake for a very special occasion. Immensely professional and attentive staff and the food was not only a work of art, but divine in flavour and quality. Outstanding.

Wonderful food, great service and an eclectic range of art on the walls. The atmosphere was delightful and the building was incredibly inviting. We enjoyed the perfect date night here and will definitely be back!

I was thrilled to arrive at the hotel...and once the car had been parked walking through the gate into the courtyard with the front of the hotel covered with wisteria simply took my breath away... Through the door you were plunged into a very dimly lit reception area giving a sense of stepping back in time... It really is a charming hotel.. our room was up a series of dark stairways with lights suddenly coming on to illuminate your way ... Our room was truly lovely but did find it rather compact..not a lot of room for two people to move around and a very small closet so only enough for 1person to hang their clothes and store their bags...the rooms redeeming feature was the fact that you had balcony doors that could be opened and the view was into the garden ... Opposite our room was the library a wide variety of books, sofa's and a lovely terrace to sit out on... Most of the staff were genuine and kind with a few being rather clumsy in their approach... Enjoyed the breakfast and coffee ... You may be wondering why I have given it top marks and then a slightly skewed review .. it's just that it really is charming the fact that I happen to need slightly more space in a suite should not deter someone else going and finding it perfect...
