Iconic building in Leeds. In need of a little TLC inside but definitely retains its character of a bygone era. Reception staff were so welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Room was spacious and had a very comfy super large bed. Breakfast was tasty and well laid out. We will be back.

Lovely place and I attend conferences and events there, the food is lovely but the lady who literally walks around with her clipboard stating 'your group hasn't paid for drinks, where did you get those from' or informing the organisers 'you've only paid for one each' and stands there ticking off her list doesn't make it friendly for those who aren't local. People skills are lacking.

The location of the hotel is brilliant. The staff within the hotel fantastic, excellent on site parking (limited spaces). The only down side was the size of the room, the room was so small you had a job walking round the bed, very small and feel it should be pointed out when checking in.

At check in they could not offer a quiet room. Apparently despite requesting this when booking it only counts if you phone. It was a hot day, but it was very hot. In the rooms. There was a thunderstorm. Then the roof in the room leaked so thunder was replaced by drips. Then the fire alarm went off. At breakfast. Not clear whether to evacuate. Eventually proceeded with breakfast in the din and without any toast (no electric when the fire alarm is on). Maybe unfortunate - but I will not be visiting again!

I stayed here in December 2018 to attend a Christmas Night Out in Leeds. Booked well in advance, so managed to get a decent rate. Was within walking distance of Leeds Train Station. Apart from the room, I didn't use any of the facilities of the hotel. There seemed to be a couple of large functions being hosted in the hotel. Only came into contact with reception staff. Rooms were a bit old fashioned - didn't feel in a rustic way, more that the hotel was being continually improved/refurbished, and that takes time. It had all the required amenities for my stay. I'd stay again.

We stayed one night, and had a fairly mixed experience. Pros: - Friendly staff. - Good location, close to the city centre, but not too close in terms of noise. - Nice historical building. Cons: - The only lift in the hotel wasn’t working, meaning having to take 4 flights of stairs to our room. - Issues with bathroom, which looks very dated. - The shower didn’t drain well (water started filling up quickly on the bath floor). - The toilet didn’t flush well, and takes a long time to fill. - The sink taps were separate hot and cold, a mixed tap would be a better option. Would consider staying at again, as it may have got 4 stars if it weren’t for faulty lift issue.

I happened to stay here on the night of a Christmas party. I complained about the noise twice and said I hadn't been warned about there being a Christmas party. Apparently because they had asked guest on the first floor (most of whom were at the Christmas party) about the noise and hadn't had any complaints it was fine. I was offered a worse room at a lower price to compensate for the noise. Whilst I appreciate it is the fault of none of the individual staff members concerned, it is truly terrible that I was not able to stay in the equivalent of the room I had booked peacefully.

Avoid! The beds are too soft and not much change in the 10 years since I was here last. It is showing serious signs of wear and year. Staff were very helpful and friendly but there's only so much they can do with the facilities on hand. The elevator was awaiting repair and it appeared that it had been for days.
