We've eaten at the Hartnoll a few times and always found the service and food to be fantastic. Nothing is ever too much trouble. This time we went for Afternoon Tea and weren't disappointed! They made a wonderful vegetarian afternoon tea, it was clear that thought had gone into the veggie sandwiches. The hotel and restaurant are spotlessly clean and the staff are following Covid guidelines so we had no concerns.

Excellent staff. Hotel and gardens beautiful . Immaculately clean. Fabulous food . Given an upgrade to a beautiful room as our first room had a slight problem through no fault of the hotel. Family joined us for dinner one night and the service and food was amazing . Well done You are truly doing an exceptional job even with the restrictions of Covid ! We have stayed in many 4 and 5 star hotels and you are certainly up there with the best.

Good cream teas. Need to put some parking restrictions in place as it's not easy to park at school pickup time as all the parents use it as the school car park. Charge to park and get a refund if you eat food or use the restaurant for above £x?

Went here for dinner on a Monday night; amazing food in an unhurried and easygoing environment, the service was exceptional without being overbearing. It wasn’t cheap but I didn’t mind paying for service and quality. I will be going again.

We were delighted with the Hartnoll. It is quite simply a beautiful and relaxing place to spend a few days in Devon. We stayed in a suite which had a spa bath, a huge comfortable bed, a lounge and kitchenette. The loft windows cleverly opened up into a balcony overlooking the grounds where we sat and enjoyed a bottle of bubbly. During our stay I spoke to Claire, a kind and caring well-dressed lady who showed us to our room and helped carry a bag. I later found out she was the owner and she told me about how she had spent much time and energy renovating the building from just a shell 14 years earlier. Well she had done a fantastic job because everywhere you looked you found something beautiful. The bedrooms and hotel rooms were all decorated with great style and grace. Our room had fabulous views of the garden and grounds - all immaculately looked after by a hardworking team We ate every night in the hotel restaurant. Friendly and attentive staff and absolutely exquisite food. We preferred sitting in the conservatory to eat, so if you want the same make sure you book your table early as it is very popular. You can get a feel for a hotel from the other guests. Everyone we met was happy and relaxed. I don’t think we heard a single complaint from anyone during our stay. The hotel is an absolute delight and a huge thank you must go to Claire and her team for making our time at the Hartnoll so enjoyable. We will be staying again soon.

Food, facilities and staff were great and the hotel is beautifully located with lovely grounds. Also some lovely walks and runs up to the national trust parks and surrounding villages. Only issue I had was my room back onto the bins/vent from the kitchen which on a day hitting 28c meant I couldn't pleasantly open my window making for a relatively uncomfortable night. There was a fan but it was very loud. Next time I may just ask for a room not backing onto that area.
