Fun, Small little venue. Only 3 rows of chairs deep for comedy gigs, with extra seating round the sides. Very wide area which Rhys James found a bit off-putting I think but managed to make plenty of jokes about the venue! Really enjoyed our night, great upcoming comedian, just get here early if its sold out as some views will be blocked by pillars if you have to sit round the sides or back corners

We were wanting to buy a bottle of bubbly £30 but they couldn't/wouldn't put it on ice for us and insisted on pouring it into pint (plastic) cups to take downstairs!!! They said health & safety. Have they ever tried to break a champagne bottle? I am NOT that strong. Stupidity at it strongest. We ordered beer. The venue was hotter than hell, i asked "is the air con on? I'm about to pass out" She replied "i don't thinks so" . I ssked "can you turn it on?" She replied "i don't thinks so " unbelievable! The music was great, but my enjoyment of it was taken away, by staff/management who just don't care, at the end i asked if i could have my ticket back, i go see a lot of live music and like to keep tickets and was told it had been shredded, i strongly feel this was a lie. 👎👎👎👎

I love the Basement. Different events such as pop-up shops and open mic nights happen there regularly, right in the centre of York!

Was advised to take a look here as had an open Mic night on the Sunday night, the downstairs area and bar was lively with a good atmosphere and then upstairs an area set up for people to watch some local performances, really enjoyed this aspect. Was open late too which was great to carry on the night.
