Very interesting, well worth a visit. I learnt several surprising things, for example that bobbin-making was a major Lakeland industry. The guide was extremely well informed and a good communicator, and her practical demonstration was excellent.

5/ 5

A very interesting place to visit and should be kept on for future generations to see how tough life really was in the old days. People worked there for 14hours a day for 6 days a week and some were boys as young as 12 too. Young people think they're hard done by if they haven't got a skateboard or a mobile phone today. The strange thing is that despite the tough conditions then and the harsh and very isolated environment they lived in many people lived to a ripe old age. Also strange to be washing your hands numerous times here when people were so poor in days gone by and lived. But despite having to follow the covid restrictions rules it was still very accessible to people visiting. A very good visit and more education from the English Heritage.

Well set out with external information trail. You don't have to go into the Mill building (fee, and booking advised). Peek through the window and see Bobbin making demo. Worth a 45 minute visit.

An extremely detailed tour and demonstration of the bobbin mill. The feel of the mill as it was while in use had been preserved in the demonstration and the staff are more than happy to answer any questions on the Mill and processes used.
