I heard about Lowther before coming to Lake District, I read great comments on both Google Maps and Tripadvisor so I booked in advanced. Since we are still in tier 2 and it was an early misty Sunday morning, the castle was literally empty, just for us to explore its gardens and history. The place is absolutely gorgeous, the story of the Lowther family is amazing and it is clearly explained as you moved through the castle, the cafe is cozy and the gardens -on a rainy cold morning- were truly beautiful. Can't wait to see this place in summer.

A wonderful day out with the best adventure playground I've ever seen (My photo does not do it justice!) A huge slide, at least 3 zip slides and an elastic spider's web to name a few of the things to discover, I don't think we're found all of it! Wild grounds (we're loved the rock garden the best and the rose garden smelt incredible) The inside of the castle was looking stunning with the autumn foliage they have planted here. We will definitely be coming back.

We have been visiting Lowther Castle on and off now for 12 years. Visit in New year weekend was the first time for a few years now. What an amazing transformation since more investment has gone into the grounds in recent times. The walks and cycle trails are excellent with ample parking at different points. The grounds are still worth a visit and the cafe is good with lots of outdoor seating. Askham close by is an excellent village with good pubs/restaurants.

Great place to visit. Fab little museum telling the history of the house and family. The grounds are currently being refurbished but there is still a lot to see. Very nice cafe, either sit in or takeaway. Would definitely recommend a visit
