We visited the branch this afternoon with the purposes of closing an account with a zero balance and paying in a cheque into another account. 2 easy purposes. However, the assistant found great difficulty in paying in a cheque and found extremely great difficulty in closing another account. She went into the back room on at least two occasions to ask for assistance. She then wanted us to defer closing the account in case there was any interest to be added. It's a zero balance account! Why can't these assistants just do what they are asked i.e. pay in a cheque and close another account? Additionally these simple tasks took near enough half an hour whilst six or seven people were queuing and waiting for service. There were at least two other staff members in the back room and they failed to come into the counter area to assist. As I said customers had been queuing for at least half an hour. This sort of service is reprehensible. I appreciate that the staff are unhappy about the branch closing but there is no need to disrespect and disadvantage paying customers. Mrs Wright.
