Terrible service at breakfast both days, couldn’t get even tea bags for our room! We stayed two nights after arriving in the UK. The room was ready a bit late, so we strolled around the grounds and had coffee in the restaurant. We were in the annex building, not the mansion. The room was very nice which you would certainly expect at the price. Breakfast was a service disaster both days. We ordered a full English breakfast, but didn’t get any sausage or toast. We asked for toast, but never got it. We thought they were out of sausage until everyone at the next table got it with their breakfasts. You hear about staff shortages, but there was a host and 4 or 5 staff milling about at all times. The next day they asked what beverages we wanted the minute we were seated, but didn’t get them. We asked when we could get the attention of a staff member, but “immediately” was after we finished breakfast. In our luxury room, there were two English breakfast tea bags which were not replenished on the second day. We tried calling the operator to connect us to anyone who could bring a few bags up. The hotel operator answered once out of four or five calls. The tea bags never arrived. We eventually went to a supermarket to buy tea bags. We didn’t risk dinner at the hotel. There was a very nice pub with very good food down the road. We are there both nights. My COVID test did not arrive by the morning of our departure. We had to keep going to the front desk- in another building - to ask about it because no one answered the phone when we tried calling from our room. I have tried calling and emailing the hotel since we left over a week ago and have not gotten a single response, except an automated reply that someone would get back to us shortly.

A beautiful hotel in stunning surroundings, though our stay had several disappointments. Upon turning up for a beauty treatment I was told they didn't have the right therapist and no alternatives were available. Our dinner reservation was confirmed at the Wernher restaurant, only when we turned up, it was closed! Two weddings booked at the venue ensured loud, drunken voices outside our window from 2:00am onwards. Hotel staff did not follow up with any of the above and a personal touch would have been appreciated to make our stay more enjoyable.

Do not come! This hotel does not have enough staff and is in complete disarray. It is testimony to just how much resource is needed to effect a beautiful stay in a beautiful place. Give them at least 6 months from May 2021, before you book. Room mini-fridge broken. NO room service, none! No answer on the phone and breakfast failed to arrive when I ordered it at reception the night before. Rude spa staff. Short spa treatment sessions, which start late Stale bread at breakfast (the coffee was good, though). And I'm only halfway through my weekend! Such a shame, given how desperate people are for a break.

Family lunch in Wernher restaurant. The surroundings are amazing - a beautiful and luxurious top drawer stately home. Food and service good with a fixed price 3 course Sunday lunch at £39. We wanted to sit in a lounge before lunch but couldn't because all tables were reserved for afternoon tea from 1.30.
