IF I COULD GIVE 0 STARS I HONESTLY WOULD
Having been a loyal customer since 2012 & having service plans & extended warranties on my three Jaguar XJLs I was always treated well by the staff here. The reception staff have always been second to none but their high turnover of staff speaks volumes for what goes on behind the scenes & my relationship soured when I dared to question the dubious advice I was given by one of their so-called Master Technicians.
I booked one of my vehicles in for investigation in to why there was no sound coming out of my stereo, which I was charged £160.00 for & advised the amplifier had signs of water on it and had subsequently stopped working but the head unit & amplifier would need to be replaced at a cost of £3,900. I questioned why the head unit would need replacing, when it worked perfectly fine but was told the head unit serial number didn’t match the JLR system so it’d had the head unit replaced at some point but regardless unless I replaced both, the two units would not ‘speak’ to each other & whilst they may work for 10 minutes as soon as the signal was sent between the two they would realise they weren’t compatible & would go off. I was told that the vehicle had expanding foam by the rear light & it was their belief that it had been accident damaged & I should have it inspected by an engineer but this was what they believed had caused the water ingress.
They’d also looked in to a wheel bearing noise i’d reported & I was advised by the same master technician that whilst they had found a “little bit of play in one of the wheel bearings” it was not detrimental & I was advised to simply keep an eye on it but to my disbelief, literally moments later, I received a video report via email from the technician who’d worked on my vehicle advising me the wheel bearing had completely collapsed & required urgent replacement.
As it had been after 5pm & having not been told that I could collect my vehicle I made my way down the following morning.
As I was already aware of the conflicting advice I had been given, I spoke to the ‘master technician’ but decided to record the conversation on my iPad. He went on to explain about the stereo & amplifier & also about the wheel bearing but to my astonishment he then had the audacity to tell me that they’d checked through the work done on my vehicles & I’d never been charged for any of the works, speaking to me in front of the reception staff as if I was a scrounge when the reason I’d not paid was because I paid for extended warranties but he then asked if I’d seen the video that had been sent to which I said I have but have you. He admitted that he hadn’t so I suggested he should & asked to speak to the service manager, who I’d always had a great relationship with, well up until I put my findings to him & he became extremely agitated & to my disbelief said it appeared that they were unable to make me happy & he believed I would be better to take my business elsewhere.
All they needed to do to make me happy was to do their job properly & be sure they knew their advice was correct because for a master technician to tell me the vehicle was fine had I not seen the video & driven away only for the wheel to have fallen off then who would have been responsible?
Had I been willing to have spent £3,900 replacing the head unit & amplifier then I would have never been any of the wiser, but I simply didn’t believe that both units needed replacing & so I decided to strip one out of one of my other identical vehicles to try but when doing this I found the exact same ‘expanding foam’ surrounding the rear light on this vehicle so it was clearly a factory installation & my vehicle had not been accident damaged, there were no signs of water on the amplifier & when I swapped them it worked perfectly in the other vehicle so all I’d needed was to have replaced the amplifier at a cost of £900
A COMPLETE DISGRACE & NOT TO BE EXPECTED FROM A MAIN DEALER.
BEWARE BECAUSE I JUST WONDER HOW MANY OTHERS HAVE BEEN UNKNOWINGLY ‘RIPPED OFF’
