My boyfriend and I stayed at Grays Court for the weekend and it really couldn't have been any better. The hotel is charming - fabulous decor, the rooms are wonderful plus so many places to sit and relax and such an amazing location. We couldn't fault it! The service deserves a special mention. All the staff were so friendly and welcoming - they really made it feel like we were staying with friends. And the food! We are still talking about the blind tasting menu which was superb!! Such interesting flavours and so indulgent. It was our first time visiting York and we cannot wait to come back. Grays Court was a magical place to stay and I can't recommend it highly enough. Thank you so much...we will be back I promise!!

There are no words to describe how much I loved this place. Historical, well maintained, excellent staff, clean rooms, beautiful food and so much character and charm. One of the best places I've stayed in. If you love old historical buildings, you'll love it here. Communication prior to our arrival was excellent and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We had a small issue with our hot water which was rectified within 15 minutes. Remember this building is a 1000 years old and old things don't always want to comply. Definitely recommended and would stay there again.

Stunning hotel with exceptional food and service, it really is a hidden gem nestled in the shadow of York Minster. We were treated like royalty with every detail attended to making for an idyllic break. An exceptional blind tasting experience In the Bow Room Restaurant made our stay even more unique and special. Thank you Grays Court.

Had a great time staying here recently. All the hotel staff were friendly and great to talk to. The bar guy was very knowledgeable on beers and York too (cheers mate) and the 3 course breakfast is exactly what you need after a night in town. The garden and the family dogs are lovely despite it being wintery when we went. Parking was right outside the door. Very happy with the whole experience.

We chose The Bow Room to celebrate our engagement and they didn't disappoint. Managing to make the evening feel even more special than it already did. The personal touches, attentive services and genuine delight for us made it a night to remember.

My husband and I had dinner at The Bow Room to celebrate our anniversary, and it was wonderful. The staff are so welcoming and helpful and clearly know their stuff when it comes to the food and wine, and how to make sure everyone has a lovely time. Having a drink and canapes in the beautiful Jacobean panelled gallery was a great way to start the evening. The pacing of the tasting menu was perfect so that you don't feel rushed or full, and the food itself was exceptional. All in all - a fantastic evening - highly recommend!

This visit was an experience filled with pure enjoyment. The hotel itself is very beautiful and the setting couldn't be any better. The dinning room is tastefully decorated and looks out onto the city walls, visible even in the dark. The food was fabulous. Beautifully presented and described carefully by the excellent staff. This was our first visit, but not our last.

My review is primarily of our two meals here recently but also of this weekend’s medical ‘ conference’ where we took over the whole hotel. The food was stunning on both occasions - this is certainly now on a par with the best we have visited and hopefully will soon get a Michelin star! The hotel ambience is lovely and all our 24 guests loved it. The staff could not do enough to accommodate our needs. Thanks to Helen, Sarah, Alex and all the staff for terrific meals and a great weekend event.

Our daughter had treated us to the Taster Menu with Wine Pairing at The Bow restaurant. This was our third experience of Taster menus but by far the worst. Although the food looked amazing and was served with great pomp and ceremony, the distinctive flavours promised on the menu were lacking. In fact the beef course was tongue tartare! Well, if you could find the tongue. The portions were thumb sized.Yes, I know it was a taster menu but you need to be given enough food to taste it! The allocated 4 glasses of wine(100ml) did compliment the food but the Madeira wine at the end was too sweet and sickly, like the final desert. My wife would have preferred a glass of champagne. It was obvious that we were terribly disappointed but nothing was done to try and rescue the evening. In fact we were just told that no one else had any issues. We certainly won’t be recommending The Bow to anyone and have reimbursed our daughter the £280. We could have gone to a high quality fish restaurant, had lobster and champagne and still have been quids in! A huge, huge disappointment!
