Really close to the Minster, excellent breakfast. Our room on the top floor was a bit small and may be worth paying a bit more to be on the middle floor. Taxis can't drop you right by, so be prepared to walk a short distance. We managed to walk to the station though.

Stayed here in December. Staff were pleasant and helpful. With it being an old building there was no lift so only go if yo can manage the stairs. The room was small but adequate. It had everything I needed. Was very quiet. Didn't hear anything considering the hotel is in the centre of York. The bathroom was tiny and had no heating in it so it was freezing in the middle of the night. Breakfast was delicious. Great choices on the menu. We were only offered one cup of coffee.

Wasn't a guest but had a walk in breakfast. The staff were aloof bordering on rude marring the whole experience. We waited 40 minutes for 2 Yorkshire full breakfast which comes with toast. Needless to say the coffee was cold by then. The food was similar to elsewhere so we chose to eat here for the homemade fresh herb rosti. Shame we couldn't taste or see any herbs in it. When we came to leave they tried to charge for extra toast ws hadn't had. The menu on the till had been changed but the sign outside wasn't changed and neither were the printed A4 sheets used for table menus, so watch out for that one. We have eaten breakfast in 3 different places in the last 3 days and this one I wouldn't go back to.

Great location and friendly staff with an excellent breakfast choice. As some other people have already commented the rooms are a bit small and mine was slightly dated, but it wouldn't stop me booking in here again.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It is in the heart of the walled city of York. Perfect for being able to walk easily around the city. The hotel is in a very attractive old building. The room was perfect for us with a view of the minster. A lovely walk shower was a nice bonus. The owners & staff were very friendly. We enjoyed the wonderful choice at breakfast. We will definitely be booking again on a return visit to York.

I didn't stay at the hotel, but went to the forest for lunch on a day trip, we were so impressed the food, decor and staff that we went back later while we waited for the dungeon. I would certainly recommend checking the forest out if you're in the area, one stand out for me was their hot chocolate, definitely try it. As for the hotel above, I'll be trying that the next time I visit York

We have lived in York for a number of years and have walked past Galtres Lodge on many occasions without thinking of eating there. Not sure why but having been there last night we will definitely be going back again......on a regular basis. The food was great and the atmosphere very inviting. Add to that helpful and friendly staff and you have a perfect venue. Excellent.
