Had a fantastic 2 night stay here just before Christmas. Check in was seamless and very welcoming. Parking was no issue either there were always spaces available. The room was fantastic, clean and spacious and well equipped with tea, coffee and even hot chocolate! Bathroom was great with bath and shower and selection of toiletries. Breakfast was second to none, hot buffet with all the usual delights. Hot porridge, pastries, yogurt, cereals, ham, cheese, bread, jams and 2 toasters ready for action. The staff were friendly and attentive. Menu also provided for gluten free, vegan and kippers and eggs cooked fresh to order should the hot buffet not provide you with what you require, spot on! The hotel is warm throughout and fantastic historical building. We loved it and will be returning. Recommended.

I was unsure about going 3* or 4* on this place but decided on 4* because of the location and more importantly the staff who are excellent. I was there for a family funeral reception and this hotel on the southern outskirts of Edinburgh has a classy if slightly faded charm. The hotel has an understated elegance with great views over the city and the river Forth.

Deluxe double room was massive with everything in perfect condition. Bar and restaurant very welcoming and food was great too. Breakfast buffet was fine as well but wouldnt mind bigger choice on cold side of it. Only 35min walk to centre but really enjoyable walk because of all the little shops and restaurants all along the main road. Recommend!

This is a very good hotel. We were in 3 different rooms over a 3 week period and all had obviously been updated. Rooms were of deluxe status and spacious. I suspect all rooms have been updated. All public areas that we were in appeared to be in need of some updating. We used the restaurant for dinner each evening and found the food to be lovely. Good selection although menu was the same each week but this was due to staff shortage apparently. Staff members we had dealings with were extremely helpful, polite and willing to help in any way possible. We could not fault anything about our stay. Breakfast was amazing. A very good selection of cooked items as well as continental.

Good location for buses into town. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and well kitted out for the fair price we paid. Only complaint would be that the room we had (209) was fairly compact and the tap water was apparently not drinkable (notice above sink) which meant you were reliant on bottles. Weird, considering you're in Scotland, the land of delicious water.

Absolutely fantastic hotel, great comfy spacious room with a little terrace, the staff were all friendly and polite and the food was amazing. I think the only bad thing I can say is about the Christmas music playing but that's personal preference and it wasn't loud so I could easily talk over it and block it out. Highly recommended and I hope to visit again soon.

We booked 2 nights in Classic Double rooms with breakfast. The rooms were very pleasant, spacious and clean. The breakfast was an impressive buffet. The hotel was in decent order except for some tired carpets on a couple of stairs but this added character really. The only 2 issues we encountered were the lack of draught beers in the bar and the lack of staff through illness...service was a little stilted but the handful of staff who were left to survive managed well and were polite and friendly. All in all an enjoyable stay that we would happily repeat.

A lovely historical building in a quiet area, with good access and public transport to the town. What made our stay here so very special was the staff. They are thoughtful, professional and nothing was too much trouble. I can't thank them enough for making our stay and my birthday so very memorable. Our room was traditional, large, with a tower corner nook and lovely views. Very clean and comfortable. We also recommend the reasonably priced restaurant. The food was excellent. Breakfasts included haggis and bannock - delicious. We will definitely book again!
