Really enjoyable stay. Free reign to camp wherever we wanted on the front grounds, huge open space where even when it got really busy, there was still 100m or so between campers. Only downside was that the carpark is a fair way from the camping spots, but once we'd done a few trips and got set up... that was also part an upside, as it was peaceful, quiet and kept the ground untouched.

*Corona specific* Most of my criticism is based on our stay after they opened during Corona so this may not be representative in general. There were no communal facilities open except for the garden, but we had wanted to be self-catered. They 'allowed' us to cook on our camping stoves in the garden but offered us no simple potwash facilities. I understand limitations had to be made but the only other option was to buy their cooked food at almost restaurant prices or go out to eat every day, and at a YHA you're generally looking to save money hence it being set up for youth stays. Despite this the stay prices were the same as normal, I get that they might be under pressure but equally you have to offer good value for money which it didn't really feel was right. As well as this the room we had was basically an oven at around 27° overnight, great insulation were it winter. Windows had childlocks that were non-removable so we couldn't get air through. After a sleepless first night we asked for a fan, which we got and were greatful for but it was this industrial grade thing that was so loud we still didn't sleep much. Overall, a shame as the building, grounds, staff and location were all excellent.

Amazing experience and so much fun for the kids. Plenty of things to do around the manor and then so many walks and pubs to visit locally. Thank you to the amazing staff too.

I enjoyed my recent week holiday here, even with some Covid-19 restrictions it's a good place to stay anyway. 🙂 Conveniently located in one of the most interesting part of the Peak District National Park, this hostel is an ancient house with a new building on its side and a nice park around... 🌄 Castleton is one of the Peak District’s most characteristic villages, with Peveril Castle, several shops and pubs to eat traditional British food, but also a pizza and to drink the famous Peak Ales... 🍺 It's also well known for its caverns and is a haven for walkers, with several routes to walk until the top of Mam Tor and other hills... 🏞️ It's also a good base to explore other villages around: Tideswell, Eyam, Edale and Buxton, the Spa Town near the border of the Peak District National Park. ⛲

Stayed here for 3 days and the overall experience was great. Fantastic Location and the staff is friendly as well. In terms of the hotel food, I would suggest ordering breakfast here and not the dinner menu. There is ample parking space outside. Also had a reserved parking spot. There are 2 dining rooms, a nice and big community hall and a small library where you can read books or work from your laptop.

Beautiful buildings and grounds. Good location. Some of the staff were very abrupt and quite rude. Overpriced due to it being New Year’s Eve. Check in not until 5pm so waiting around to check in and then everyone wants to use the kitchen facilities at once with it being tea time. Room basic but clean and comfortable. Kitchen fairly well equipped. The kitchen shut at 9.30pm to be cleaned and didn’t get reopened again until the next morning meaning we had no access to our drinks in the fridge, a kettle or food. I feel this is far too early especially since it was New Year’s Eve and we were wanting a few drinks to celebrate. Had to keep our drinks with us from 9.30pm. We weren’t made aware of this closure at check in and the sign on the kitchen door just says closed for cleaning at (3 times) throughout the day. It didn’t say it won’t reopen and we only found out from a rude member of staff. The vending machine in the lobby was broken so couldn’t get cold drinks or snacks out of that and reception and the cafe/bar closed at 10pm. Felt a bit like we were on a curfew and after paying £120 with yha discount, didn’t get to use the facilities as expected.
