Loved the ambiance of this cafe. Staff were very friendly. Can certainly recommend the cake topped with raspberries which were the most delicious I have tasted in a very long while. Definitely worth a stop, especially if you like traditional tea made with proper tea leaves. ...and cake!

Used to visit when I lived in oxford 20 years ago and product was better. Now seems a little over priced to meet the tourist market. Tea served wasn't good but was quickly and politely exchanged. Food tasty but not everything available early Sunday lunchtime and over priced in my opinion.

We were turned from the door after we announced to have arrived for drinks. After reading the others experiences I'm sad to realize the staff is well under qualified to a place with such acclaimed history. Unfortunately I will have to advice my contacts to avoid a visit to this place when visiting Oxford.

The food was average. The risotto with leek, potatoes and brie had almost no flavour at all. When I did my order I requested to add salmon or chicken on it. But they said they couldn't. The soup was ok. But same thing, almost no flavour on it. The peach chinese tea was good. The staff was very attentive and polite. And they served it fast. The place was clean.

Appalling service with very rude and inattentive staff (Antonio). Just as we walked in we were told we couldn’t just have our tables joined and we were a group of 6 as they were busy (the place was pretty much empty). Moreover, we were asked to order more tea because they cant give us extra cups because as per the policy, a pot can only be served with 1 cup, there was no where written about this policy. Antonio told us this all with a smirk and a dismissive attitude. If there was a choice of rating them 0 i would definitely choose 0, the service was pathetic Kindly dont waste your money, the place should be called a Grand Snob house instead of Grand House.

Always come here when go to Oxford. It’s a small place so expect to wait, but it is worth it! Staff are always nice. The food and pastries are amazing. You get what you pay for, and that’s quality! Interesting flavours and very well made. Nice selection of teas.

We had a lovely lunch at this elegant establishment whilst visiting Oxford for the day last week. We both enjoyed the meals we chose very much and the service was excellent. My wife enjoyed a glass of champagne whilst I opted for traditional tea to accompany our lunch. Quite a popular lunch stop but reasonable spacing between tables. A really enjoyable lunch in a classy location.

It was great, very enjoyable, sandwich and platter, elderflower drink - just the right size, salad on plate not over doused in dressing. Next tables afternoon tea looked so exciting too. A pity we go home tomorrow.

Wow. I don't know what most other commenters were expecting, but this cafe is just fantastic. Food and tea: Just delicious. Scones were fluffy, jam and cream fresh and light, tea was strong and rich. Cold drink selection looks great too. Service: Amazing. It helped having a cute little one with us, but the staff were genuinely lovely, "chef" gave us a free portion of fruits for our louder/more upset than usual 15 month old. Atmosphere: Refined, relaxed and charming. It's a small space and the chairs are a bit large but with no one on tables next to us it was fine. Cost: The price is expected for Oxford, in fact I've worked in places in Yorkshire that charge similar or more. TL;DR: 100% we're going again.
