Well worth a visit. Take a boat trip down an old lead mine. Informative and entertaining. Parking opposite was around £4 but you get £2 back at the cavern even if you have booked and paid online in advance. We went on a Sunday in the morning and it wasn't too busy. As we were leaving the car park was packed.

We had a good time here. Lots of history that the tour guide will enlighten you on. Social distancing was done really well. There are stairs that you will have to climb down to enter and climb up to exit. The entire tour takes place on a boat in a small space (not good if you're claustrophobic) Price is a bit steep (£15 per person for adults), but caves are cool so 🤷‍♀️ Ask the tour guide questions, you'll learn so much more! There's a gift shop at the end when you survive the 120 or so step climb out of the cavern. There's parking across from the site which is paid, and the area in general is gorgeous if you want to walk and hike around.

Nice hiking day out with a lunch in Castleton. Lots of caverns to explore for something a bit different if you're keen. Pretty busy a very touristy area. We did a small hike up Winnats Pass was about 5km from the town up a steep climb coming round the top and back down the other side. If you fancy a bit more of a walk you could climb to the top of Mam Tor from the top of the pass or park along the roads near the Blue John caverns as a starting point.👌🍻

A great idea, and overall a good time. Only thing I'd look out for is if you're 6ft or above, it gets very cramped! My brother and I had to duck down and almost double over to get down the stairs to the boat in the first place, and then most of the boat journey so there were some sore necks after! Ultimately we had a good time though, so would definitely recommend.

Great tour today with Jacob as our guide. Informative but funny as well along the way. Answered our questions, took our photos and even let us slip onto the earlier tour as there were spaces. A more general note for visitors in the future, if possible park on the road that parallels the caves as its free and walk the no more than 400m across the grassy path. Save yourself £4. Jacob gets 5 stars, overall 4 stars for the Cavern as whilst good, we felt a bit expensive for what it is.

I didn't visit the cavern so can't comment on that. I did visit the jewellery / gift shop and loved it! The staff were all very welcoming and friendly, the jewellery was well presented, there are beautiful unique pieces that i believe are all well priced. There are plenty of other gift items available too. I was spoilt for choice. I certainly would recommend stopping by the shop.

An excellent visit. The two ladies should be on the stage. We were a little delayed they entertained us well!! A few words of warning, but don't be put off. You need to book. They provide hard hats, they are needed. Do not attempt to get in the boat without one. It's a fair distance under very low roofs. It's not claustrophobic or dangerous but you will hit your head unless carefull. Wear tough walking boots, as it's quite wet in places including the boat. We were just two in the boat, but it takes more. You need to be a bit agile getting on and off the boat and keeping low for the ceiling. None of this is meant to deter you, it's great and very safe with an informative narration.

I have not been here for a while. Safe to say, there are more interesting caverns in the area. The experience of being in a boat underground is unusual but that's about it. Not much to see, my guide was very obviously keen for his shift to end.

Overall a good experience. Our guide Bart was good and mostly funny, although I think he tells his jokes 500 times a day. The boat trip itself is fun and the kids loved it. The "cavern" part of Speedwell Caverns is exceptionally underwhelming and Blue John was better in this regard (although no fun boat trip). Good to do. Not cheap but on balance worth it for a different experience, won't be rushing back though
