We went with our 2 daughters (aged 4 and 7). They absolutely loved it, and we did too. An informative trip, great fun to do with children. The mine tour was great and the girls loved panning for gold. Thank you to Chris the tour guide and all the lovely staff.

Me my partner and our children thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the museum in mid-August whilst on holiday camping!! We loved the tour of Temple mine. The man who was our guide was so lovely, really enthusiastic and knowledgeable and happy for us to take photos and answer our questions! Highlight foe the kids (and us!!) was the gold panning at the end!!! Sadly we couldn't access a couple areas of the museum due to social distancing but only very small parts of it and it didnt affext our experience. Im sorry i didnt leave a review earlier because it was a fantastic experience. Sa 5/5. Thanks, Sarah xx

Great museum in a beautiful part of Derbyshire and an brilliant mine tour. Due to Coronovirus we had a guided tour of the mine just to our little family. Chris, our guide, was really friendly and very knowledgeable on the mine and its operations. After the mine, we did some gold panning and all came away with a little haul of fools gold and amethyst. The museum was great with loads of information about the area and its mining history. Some interactive exhibits for the youngster's too. Its a shame covid has forced them to close the climbing tunnels but perfectly understandable. Great shop as well with loads of rocks and gems available to buy as well as books on mines and the local area. Really friendly staff topped the visit off. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent museum and mine tour. The museum is very interesting and well presented. It caters for all ages, with some interactive items. It covers the industrial history, the personal stories and social history. The mine tour is very good too. The staff and guides are very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. The tour guides aren't just reading a script, they know the history and details, have explored beyond the open sections, and interact with the group. After the tour you can pan for metal ore. Well worth a visit.

A superb example of how to make a largely discontinued industrial activity enthralling! Neither my wife nor I have any background whatsoever in mining but a few days discovering the mining archeology in the area prompted us to make a visit. And we were glad we did! The two volunteers we met, Tony in the museum and Chris who conducted the mine tour, were friendly, enthusiastic, extremely knowledgeable and very approachable. Tony even offered to draw us a mines map of the area in which we were staying (Bradford Dale) but this was sadly our last day. But we'll be taking an advantage of the 12-month ticket to return and take him up on his offer! In short, a really interesting visit, both to the museum and the Temple mine. Highly recommended! As for timing - we spent nearly four hours in total and there's still more to see when we return. We had had to make a choice between the mining museum or a "well-known local stately home". We agreed that we'd made the right choice!

Really enjoyed the guided tour of a real mine and learning about it's history. The tour guide was knowledgeable and interesting. Hard hats provided. Panning for fool's gold at the end of the tour was fun too. Great for kids.
