Content warning: mention of needles, veins etc I had a really good experience with the radiology department as an outpatient in February and would like to commend them. I had traveled to see a specialist and was greeted at the radiology reception very warmly by a radiologist named Matt who got me comfortable and settled. I was there for a CT venogram with contrast, which requires a cannula, and as my veins can be quite tricky and previous cannulas have failed, I was a bit worried. The team were already dealing with a patient with very difficult veins which had required help from another department, so were running behind and under pressure. Despite that, they took the time to run through all of my information very thoroughly, answer my question fully, and carefully select the best veins. As suspected there was an issue finding a good vein but they did not get frustrated, and treated me very carefully and gently. Once the cannula was placed they helped me feel calm and prepared about the contrast injection. Jo and Ricardo who carried out the scan were also very kind, friendly, and patient. The entire time I felt well cared for, as relaxed as I could be, and like a person, not just another patient to tick off the list. I only just tried to open my CD of the scan this week and when I did found some of the images were missing. We contacted radiology who immediately sent a new CD which arrived the next day, with all of the correct images. I am also very grateful to the consultant, Dr Higgins, and his commitment to patient well-being and finding answers where others would turn their backs at the first hurdle. Overall this was a wonderful experience (or, as wonderful as a medical test can be), and I am grateful to the team for their kindness and professionalism, and to the hospital for maintaining such high standard of care.
