I visited Essential Therapy last week and I was really impressed with the service I received. The staff are all really friendly and I have very sensitive skin but they were able to wax and pluck my eyebrows with no problem at all. Lovely shaped eyebrows by the end and a great price too. Will definitely be revisiting.

I am there every three weeks, great service. I go to Rowan and honestly wouldn’t say I’d want to go to anyone else, even for a discount. She’s great and the service always top notch.

3/ 5

Lovely staff who are enthusiastic, efficient and skilled, but the prices leave something to be desired. The website doesn't detail what services are included for each treatment and an express 'pedicure' is merely a dry file and polish... for £20 I would expect at least cuticle care. You can find better value for money elsewhere.

I booked in for a Pro30 Dermalogica facial. I'm not from Edinburgh, but I had a voucher for the treatment (due to buying products from the Dermalogica website) and thought it would be a nice treat to use this while I was away on holiday. Unfortunately, I don't think it was a good use of my voucher, and I came away wishing I'd used it at another salon... I'd have been really disappointed if I'd have had to actually pay for my treatment! The therapist I had (unfortunately I don't know her name) was very friendly... up until the point that she asked me what products I normally use. I explained I've been loyal to Dermalogica for the past 5 years, using only their products on my face. But I've recently switched and moved away from the brand - and I'm really happy with the results I've seen so far. Her attitude at that point totally changed, from welcoming to downright frosty. I was really unimpressed by this - while I understand it's the therapist's job to recommend Dermalogica products, they should remain respectful of the customer's opinions, which this therapist didn't. All in all... I'd recommend a Dermalogica facial - but choose a different place to get one!

I have used this place a lot over the years. I really like it's convenient location, and some of the staff have also been very friendly and professional. Until about 6 months ago I would have considered myself as a regular, loyal customer. However, I feel that over the last 12 months or so the standards have been on a downhill slope. It all came to a head recently when a wax resulted in some of my skin pulling off and my bikini line being bruised. The broken skin and the bruises took for over 2 weeks to heal, so this was not just minor (and no, I do not damage or bruise easily!). The owner was there when this happened, and she did offer me a discount on that wax... but she did not accept that they had done anything wrong. Her view was this was a minor deal and something that happens with waxes. I would really want to continue going back to this place, but I just don't think one should come from a wax with a broken skin and bruises. And just to test this I have gone to a few other places, and indeed come home unharmed and not sore at all. Beyond this, the standards seem to have been slipping more generally (all the girls do their own thing so you can't rely to get consistency, the wax is too often too hot or too cold, .... etc). I'd love to write a better review if they raise their game, consistency and standards.
