This statue stands in tribute to King Charles II, the Stuart king restored to the throne after the death of Cromwell. This is apparently the oldest statue in Edinburgh and one of the oldest lead statues in the United Kingdom. It features the king upon a horse and oddly, dressed as a Roman emperor. He is dressed in military clothing wearing a leather muscle cuirass. On his head, he wears a laurel wreath to signify his triumphant restoration. In his right hand he is carrying a consular baton to further the Roman Emperor allegory. A fine equestrian statue of Charles II
