Cave Dale is a beautiful walk up from the village either side of steep cliffs with a stream running down the path up onto the peaks. A great alternative start to a walk across to Mam Tor. Couple of nice pubs down in the village to get warm in after. On street free parking. You'll see the castle and some cave entrances as you head up the climb into the hills. Recommended for something a bit different to start your walk.

This little valley is magical. I sat down here to meditate for 1.5 hours. Looked up to probably kestrels fling over from one side to the other... Really miss this place now.

The path here starts literally from the village. Signposted so easily found. Immediately you are rewarded with fantastic scenery as you walk through the gorge. The pathway is rocky with shallow water running over it so make sure you wear sensible footwear. When we reached the first gate at the top we took a walk to the right which had stunning views of the valley and castle. We followed the walk down the grassy fields to end up back in Castleton village. Didn't take long and very beautiful.

Gorgeous at any time of the year. We recently braved a snowy, icey hike through Cavedale and up into the peaks. If you are planning something similar then good boots are a must. The entrance can be slippy and the far end is basically a gentle water fall that you can walk up. If something is happening in Peak Cavern, (if they are showing a movie as they sometimes do), then you can hear it through a hole in the cliff further up Cavedale. After your hike, be sure to warm yourself by the fire in one of Castletons lovely pubs. Our favourite is The George, but they are all really nice.
