I called Boots Opticians at Clifton Moor York at 16.30 18/10/21 and when the phone was eventually answered I said: Can I make an appointment please?" The woman's response was "not really" [silence]. I repeated the question in a slightly different form only to get the same reply. On the third attempt the response was clarified by her adding "we are fully booked" followed by silence. There was no apology or any form of meaningful response whatsoever whereupon I hung up. This description of Boots "customer service" speaks for itself.

It's not often I write reviews but I just wanted to say I spoke to lovely and very helpful member of your team this morning, Maya at your Clifton Moor York branch. My husband has a terrible sore and inflammed eye with possible infection (was given eye drops by a cashier at boots as the pharmacist was busy) and was refused to be seen by our GP due to the virus and also we didnt want to go to A&E as understand they're pretty stretched. I had waited 2 hours phoning 111 with no response!!! Anyway Maya went above and beyond to get my husband a same day appointment at a different store. So thank you Maya and I hope we can get his eye sorted.

Excellent customer service. I have a hearing impairment and always struggle to communicate when people are wearing face masks. Sam, who initially met me, changed her face mask to a face shield so I was able to lip read her, she explained each process to me before I saw the optician. Naela, my optician, had been made aware and already had a face shield on. I was able to follow all instructions even when using the equipment, she listened to my questions and explained everything to me. Lizzy was just as attentive and helped me choose my glasses from a very extensive range. This has been the first time, in retail, where I have felt comfortable and I have not been treated as being difficult, due to my hearing loss, and where customer service has been adapted to meet my needs.. An excellent experience.

I have been visiting this store for nearly 8 years (before boots took over), over the years I have seen it increasingly profit driven which is affecting service (a bit like taking car to main agent always more to pay). I am a firm advocate for good practice regarding Covid but this store seems to be using it as excuse for reducing customer service. I needed to reschedule my appointment to collect glasses and it took several random calls to shop to rebook appointment with having to wait nearly a week for suitable appointment i suppose they had my £500+ for glasses so no pressure. As the saying goes i should have gone to specsavers. Increasingly disappointed by shop staff, only rated 3 because the optician seemed to be competent.
