Fantastic atmosphere A lovely place to go for a special occasion. The downstairs dining room is based on the Queen Mary Ocean Liner in looks. The Ground floor has large windows through which people can watch you eat. The menu has something for most people and they happily accommodate food allergies. Their deserts are amazing in looks and taste.

Delightful place. Came here after our evening meal in York and enjoyed a coffee with the family. Very relaxing atmosphere with a nice live pianist. The cakes are amazing and this place is well worth a visit if you have taken the time to come to York. Can be busy at peak time’s but they do their best to get you seated as quickly as possible.

What a quaint and pretty cafe. Staff were extremely busy but wonderfully attentive whilst they were taking our tea and ca ke orders. We chose the lemon cheesecake and a Fat rascals scone. Both simply delicious and Very tasty. A lovely visit and we'll return later in the year

Queued for nearly 1 hour, was it worth it yes and no. Yes I can day I've been to Betty's for afternoon tea and no because it's an expensive gimmick. The staff are lovely and friendly. But really 4 miniscule bite size sandwiches and even smaller cakes it's a joke. There are lots of independent coffee shops in York which are much better value. If it's so you can say you've be to Betty's then go queue but if you want value for money go else where

Such a lovely place to enjoy a tea or coffee and a cheeky slice of cake! And I can particularly recommend a visit in the evening when your relaxing drink is accompanied by some thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing piano music. I encourage all visitors to York to visit one of the two branches of the tea rooms.

Arrived just before 10am at Betty's and the queue wasn't that bad, only waited around 5 minutes before being shown to a table. The room is beautiful and the feeling of distance between the tables is spot on for a more intimate setting. We opted for two of the Yorkshire Cream Tea's with a Gooey Rascal on the side. The service is so relaxed and friendly yet retains that feeling of how afternoon tea used to be served down the years. Our cream tea's were flawless. The scones were so buttery and tasted fresh out of the oven. The Gooey Rascal was incredibly rich but so so tasty. Like a scone/shortbread texture with an oozing chocolate caramel centre. Absolutely spot on. It's a fair price here as well for such good quality food and drink. We'll definitely be back!

Bit pricey but worth the wait in line for the heritage and prestige of the place. All the food was very very tasty. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Although very busy they still managed to maintain a gentle and pleasant atmosphere. Being able to buy shop items at the table is very good.

We were pleasantly surprised that it lived up to its name and hype. We didn't book and half expected not to get a table because of what looked like a long queue, but was only about 20mins wait for a table. The whole experience is lovely, and they catered to our needs without hesitation. Chips (and matchstick fries) seem to be a done thing with high tea here... So we thought we'd bite and they were great! The tea is absolutely awesome the high tea was all EXCELLENT the scones were as high a quality and tastiness as you could imagine. One thing I would recommend is the "Fat Rascal" scone, it's large but it's great! Totally worth a try and unique to Betty's. Service was great and they bent over backwards to ensure a great experience.

Betty's was fantastic - can't thank the staff enough for a lovely afternoon. We'd had a long, difficult drive and we were running very late for our slot - we phoned and they were really great about holding our table even though they were jam packed. They made us really welcome and relaxed and then the food was spot on! We loved the sandwiches, the cakes were amazingly light and fluffy and the tea was just what we needed! Thanks all

This is always a brilliant experience. The staff are superb and the food is excellent. I can't rate this place high enough. We had to wait about an hour to get in (there's nearly always a queue) but it was well worth it. We had the afternoon tea which was outstanding.
