I recently took my oldest son here whilst the Mr and youngest were attending a tour of Old Trafford. My son loves a bit of history and totally enjoyed the experience. You could just visit the gardens either by walking in, or paying a small fee to park. However we visited the house and totally loved it. Information is available to read as you walk round, and there was a very helpful lady walking around inside. Plenty of space to move around. Lots of little activities for younger children. Cafe options are limited, but enjoyable. Little gift shop, and toilets available. If first visit give 2-3hrs if reading about the house. Otherwise a quick look and picnic in your own time. Very nice staff.

Loved it, awesome place, well worth a visit if you are in the area. It is free entry, has a cafe, toilets and parking. The staff were all happy, friendly, helpful and informative. I watched an interesting video in the museum about the history of the house and the area, which was well worth a watch as it was very interesting. Nice gardens surrounding the house. I had a cuppa and some cake in the cafe after, which was a nice end to my visit.

Fascinating place to find in the middle of Salford. Friendly staff very helpful, shame the cafe doesn't do more food but it was a decent cup of coffee! Free entry though the car park is pay and display. Full marks Salford Council for saving the place from wing developed. Plus, it's one of very few attractions in Manchester open on a Monday!
