They have absolutely nailed it! In the centre of Castleton with great rooms/ ensuite. A fabulous old pub with a lot of outside heated covered areas and well distanced tables inside. I felt safe. Good local beers and the waitresses really couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcome. Mistakenly ordering a shared starter, I thought I would have A food baby trying to finish the mains! A huge fully cooked breakfast in the morning. Will definitely be back here!

I cannot give this place enough praise. Today was very busy in Castleton and I doubted we we be able to get in anywhere. First off they had lots of tables available outside so we got a table immediately. The organisation was second to none. They had one member of staff serving at tables in order of arrival. We were serded after about 10 mins which was fine. Out drinks came a few minutes after ordering and food not long after. Very generous portions of delicious food. I had a Beef Sunday Roast with lots of meat, and lots of veg. All very hot and fresh. My wife and mother in law both had lasagna and both said it was very good. I will return without hesitation. Ale and cider were both served well. I'd like to thank all the staff who did a stellar job.

Updating the rating to 4 stars due to immediate response from owner! Don't order the steak burger! It is a huge peace of lean-dry meat in a bun having no sauce and no salad inside... Reply: Yes there was salad on the side but the pieces were not cut appropriately for the bun e.g. tomato was cut in 90 degrees quarters. Hope my feedback will help you improve, as it seems you take it very seriously, well done!

Came here with some friends for a pub lunch before a walk up Mam Tor. The new layout is lovely, it has a great seating area under a marquee which was ideal for social distancing. The staff were friendly and efficient and they took our order and brought our food very quickly. The food is very reasonably priced and they had lots of choice of pub classics. Would recommend the bangers and mash, you can choose your own sausages, gravy and potatoes!

Had a great pub lunch here. Staff were attentive and service in general was great. I had liver and bacon, which was a very good portion and had an amazing gravy along with it. My partner had wild boar hot dog, which she said was also delicious. Very near to the centre of town, and an easy walk to the nearby Castleton information centre car park. Would definitely recommend for a lovely pub lunch!

A little gem found while out walking in the summer. Me and my husband called for pizza and chips from the pizza box, which was delicious. We decided to return for my birthday/our anniversary on Christmas eve. I had braised steak, onion gravy, mash, veg and yorkshire pudding. I couldn't believe the portion size, it was enough for two people. The steak was cooked to perfection, compliments to the chef. My husband had margarita pizza and skin on chips, which he really enjoyed. The bar staff and waitresses were very welcoming, we'd not booked but they managed to fit us in. We were sat next to the open fire, which was a lovely touch to celebrating our anniversary and my birthday. I would definitely recommend and we'll definitely be returning. Well done to everyone at The George.

We travelled from Cyprus for a week's stay in Castleton. Although we weren't staying at The George, we did eat and drink there most nights. It was very busy, so booking a table is advisable. The menu is varied, homemade and absolutely delicious. Our favourite was the fish pie and the wood fired pizzas. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating, we would highly recommend. Michelle, thank you making us both feel extremely welcome. We hope to see you in 2022.

All our food was great, only bad thing was that the pizza was a tad greasy but I mean it when I say it that this place deserves 5 stars and more for the excellent service, Incredible food and a great dining experience. We (together) had a steak and ale pie, a beef burger, a chicken salad and a pork and stuffing sandwich, all great except the pizza that was a 7/10 but the rest was at least a 10/10. Mean that wholeheartedly.
