Good hotel, conveniently placed. Spa facilities are good. Nice pool, sauna and steam room. Reasonably priced bar. Rooms were good quality with nice shower and big bed. A little cramped but not too bad. Would stay again.

Nicely furnished, spotlessly clean and spacious rooms near the centre of Edinburgh. Pity then that they don’t respect the welfare of their customers and enforce the wearing of face masks as per the current legislation. In fairness all the staff ware their masks diligently apart from the duty manager/supervisor (?) who insisted on having the mask hanging of her face. Best to avoid this hotel if your in a high risk group or just wish to avoid Covid-19.

Great hotel to stay and well positioned within Edinburgh city. Staff are polite and attentive. Bar is modern with a nice atmosphere. Breakfast was lovely. Had full English first day. Second day I asked for eggs royal with a kipper. The menu did say it was a fresh. So I expected something special. However, it was plain to see that the kipper was definitely a boil in the bag kipper. It was still lovely but felt a bit cheated when it came out. All in all though it's a cracking hotel and I would return.

2/ 5

My boyfriend and I were informed 3 days prior to our arrival that Apex could not honour our reservation at Apex City of Edinburgh hotel, therefore they moved us to Apex Waterloo Place. Understandably I was very disappointed as it is based in a completely different location in the new town, which I’m not a fan of, and due to an injury I have struggled to come to terms with having to walk up hills to get to the old town, which I have tried contacting the hotel about via email with no avail as of yet. I have found the online customer service of the hotel and Apex generally to be appalling. The hotel is located on a busy main road (which will be more of a problem if your room is a forward facing one like us, as you’re able to hear cars passing throughout the night). Also, although a convenient place for Princes street, it’s quite a hike to get to the more characterful areas of Edinburgh. The main convenience I would say is how close it is to the train station, although this gets very busy and can be a nuisance to have to walk past all the time. In terms of the actual hotel, when walking in there’s an attractive reception area, however the hotel is so hot! I’ve heard other guests talking about this too; it is so unnecessarily toasty regardless of it being winter. Thankfully, there is air conditioning in the rooms which we have been using. The staff member that we saw at reception upon arrival was professional, however cold, and not especially welcoming. We found that although there were some very nice staff, as a whole we didn’t experience the staff team to be especially interested in anything, and there certainly wasn’t a homely, caring feeling there as I have seen in other hotels. The beds are very comfortable with nice soft bedding, unfortunately our duvet cover was put on inside out! Although this isn’t a massive issue for us, the small details add up. There was also no TV remote. Housekeeping knocked in the afternoon, approx 2pm, my partner informed the staff member that I was having a nap and asked if they could return later on. The staff member said that it’s not a problem and that he would return at 5pm. When my partner and I returned from dinner later on, approx 7:30pm, the room was still in its original state. I informed reception of this and they corrected this straight away which was very good of them. We decided to walk down the hotel stairs as the lifts were very busy at checking out time. My partner and I noticed that at every new floor, there were empty glasses, bowls, trays, random pots of milk, etc, that looked like they’d been there for some time just left on the landing. We thought that this was very strange and off putting. Overall I’m very disappointed; I’m not sure if this is because I am comparing it to the hotel I was supposed to stay at, or if this is all due to the hotel itself. There are clearly many points to be made about this hotel where they have not been up to standard, but I suppose for someone looking for a simple place to stay near the shops this would be adequate.

We booked our stay at the Apex Waterloo Place Hotel for 12/30/21 through 01/01/22 and due to the French and UK governments eliminating non-essential travel we can't make it into the country to attend the New Year's festivities. We have been able to get every other booking on the UK leg of our planned trip to refund our bookings but not the Apex Waterloo. This is how you treat your guests?? We are willing but not able to make it due to your government's regulations and that is not reason enough to give a refund. This is shameful!! Anyone planning a trip to this hotel beware, they do not care about their guests at all.
