Pretty quick bus ride from the main Oxford area and cost about 3.80 round trip. There are a bunch of signs to direct you to Tolkien's grave if you are looking for that.
Popped by to say hi to Beren and Luthien. :)
JRR Tolkien and his wife Edith’s final resting place. The name engraved on their tombstone “Beren”- is a character from the Simarillion - Tolkien’s final story, left unfinished. The name engraved under his wife Edith’s name is “Luthien” -also from the same story -was an elf princess and Beren’s lover. Photo of Tolkien is the last photo taken by his son Michael before his death while he was at the Botanical Gardens in Oxford.
Very pretty, very peaceful - especially on a Summer's day. Took me 5 minutes to find Tolkien's grave as there are marked stones along the path pointing the way so look out for those. There's only parking for about 10 cars - along the road as soon as you drive in, but as I'm guessing it's usually quiet you should be OK if you choose to drive there. You drive around the small cemetery chapel to get back out.
As well as Tolkien being buried at this cemetery..our loved ones are there..my son Patrick, my stepson, my mum and dad and 2 lovely Uncles. Its a very special tranquil place.
Beautiful cementry, easy to get from Oxford centre. Number 2 bus stops right outside. Some people left a ring at Tolkiens grave. I wish had thought of that. Plenty of other beautiful Gravestones to see.
