with the staff and their store. My shopping expedition sent me in search of a specific cookery book for a gift. I didn’t hold out a great hope of finding it. Waterstones have improved their store since my last visit. The storefront now opens onto the seating area for the coffee shop. I negotiated the book displays and a few random seats with my wheelchair, but then faced the barrier of the coffee shop queue blocking access to 75% of the store! A young lad, about ten said in his normal ten-year-old voice “hey Dad mind out there's a guy in a wheelchair” I couldn’t have achieved this result if I had fired a gun! Everyone cleared out the way in an instant. Anyway thanks lad, your help was appreciated.
I couldn't find what I needed, but when I asked one of the assistants, she stopped stacking shelves and joined me in my hunt. After a couple of minutes, she left me to interrogate the stock computer. Well, my charming personal shopper was unable to provide exactly what I set out to purchase, but we did get a far better gift and I was very grateful for the help I received.
Oh yes, the queue. Well after I paid for my book, there was no queue. I sailed out of the store delighted with my visit and delighted with the staff and their store.
