I visited this practice twice within 3 days. I’d been suffering from a toothache which I believed was infected. I paid £22.70 and walked into the room and started explaining that it had been many years since I’d been there but my issues had started a year ago but worsened in the past 3 weeks. The dentist must have misheard and basically started correcting me on when I had last visited and said it was not a year ago. I repeated what I had said but the look on his face showed he wasn’t impressed. I sat in the chair for 2 minutes and I was sent on my way, I even said to the dentist is that it. He checked my tooth and filled it without cleaning then told me to book an appointment for further work. Not much was said on his part. That first night was a slight pain relief but still some discomfort. The following day I had pains but they were bearable until the evening. I hadn’t slept at all and was in so much pain I called 111. They advised that I book an emergency appointment. The next day I had spoken with my colleagues father who is a dentist and has his own private practice. He advised that my tooth should have been cleaned and from the symptoms I’d told him about it sounds like an infection. So I attended my second appointment and walked in advising the same dentist that I’d been in agony. He looked at me with no care in the world and no reaction and put both of his hands up as if to say ‘so’ or ‘and’. He said that he’ll prescribe antibiotics for now and said that he had not cleaned the tooth as he did not want to make the hole bigger or worse. I’m very upset with my experience at this dentist, I don’t recall going through any of this at my last visit years ago. I felt extremely uncomfortable and almost like I was being profiled. As though the dentist had an issues with me. Nothing was explained from him regarding my treatment and I was very offended by his actions like we’re friends or something. There was no professionalism on his part at all. I understand people have bad days but this isn’t that. As a person of colour, his whole vibe made me feel like he had a problem with that. I’ve been on the NHS website prior and post my appointments and I am aware of the standards. I wasn’t shown any of this. I would like to resolve this and give the company an opportunity to put things right with me. I’m a complaints manager and don’t like to complain myself but if this behaviour continues in my following appointment, I would be looking to take things further.
