Undercliffe Cemetery is a mixture of new and old. Opened over a century ago, it has graves ranging from simple crosses to elaborate monuments, some of which are Grade listed. Some very important people have been interred here, including a Lord Mayor, wool barons and prominent businessmen.

This is one of Bradfords Treasures many of the men and women who made Bradford HISTORICALLY one of the 5 richest city's in Euroupe are buried in this cemetary. This CEMATARY has some of the finest monuments within its boudaries dating back around 150 years it also has certain areas within that are for certain faiths and beliefs. This cemetary in the 1970s onwards till about 9 years ago was deserted of monies and workers within the cemetary by Bradford Council. This Cemetary through the above lost its cemetary warden and it's greenhouse . It fell into a sad state of dis repair and graves damaged and the 2 churches within were pulled down through vandalism. In the past 10 years thanks to the friends of undercliffe cemetary and new limited council funding graves have been repaired and grass is again been cut. There are also war graves of great interest including VC graves in here and regular tours are done of them by people who are involved by friends of Undercliffe cemetary My family members are buried within and from myself thanks you to all involved with making this CEMATARY a respectful place again.

Such a nice place to walk around. So much history, very peaceful. It's great looking at the grandeur of the many stones and tombs from the Victorian era. A particular favourite of mine is the tomb belonging to the Illingworths. The place is in need of a little work but I suppose... who's going to pay for it? There are two car parks at either end of the cemetery.

2/ 5

undercliffe cemetery is absolutely beautiful. it's a vital historic landmark and the effort put in by the volunteer team who tend to its redevelopment / upkeep is vital & worthy of support. as a charity, they deserve as much as they can get. what unfortunately undoes all of this is the overwhelming presence of local youths who, unpoliced, are effectively given free reign to harass, abuse & threaten those visiting and/or using the cemetery. i strongly recommend visiting undercliffe for its history and cultural significance however i would issue a strong caveat to keep your wits about you and a weather eye on your nearest available exit until such time that adequate security measures are put into place at this crucially important facility.
