I have recently just brought a house and Claire Burns was my 'solicitor'. I use that word lightly as I think throughout the whole process we spoke a handful of time. There was no best way of communicating! I would send an email and wait weeks for a response and when I called the office I was very rarely put through. There was little/no communication and when I did get through on the telephone I could honestly feel them roll their eyes at me and actually SIGH down the phone. I had to remind myself that I was the customer and I was paying them to complete this job! I was asked by the housing association to chase Claire on a number of occasions but she would tell me 'I dont understand why they are making you chase we have a deadline and we are working towards it'. However the deadline came and went and still no completion date was even mentioned!! Claire hadn't even started the searches on the property. Literally nothing had been done. When this came to light I felt the searches were rushed and I would get a random emails with some attachments which had no explanation as to what I was meant to do (as a first time buyer this is extremely confusing). It took 4 long months to complete and I felt there was no communication, I was left feeling guilty when needing to contact Claire and I had no idea what was holding up the process as nothing was ever discussed with me!! To top it off I was overcharged by £750.00 an error which I had to pay as they gave me a days notice to pay!! However I was promised a refund, when the refund sheet came through I had to wait 3 days for it to clear or pay £33.00 for a same day transaction!! I couldn't believe it but by this point I was so frustrated I just let it go. Overall, I certainly would not recommend Claire Burns to anyone! Pick your solicitor wisely. I really think process would have gone much quicker and smoothly if I appointed someone else.

5/ 5

I used Sharon Harding for my first house transfer and she was on the ball and had such a good experience I used her again without any consideration of others. I can not comment on others, but she was brilliant in responding within a quick time (1 day at worst) with queries and concerns. She also didn't wait till the end of the process to take on queries from my buyers when I sold again but took proactive action to take them on. Due to how it works, they didn't always express what they were doing with me. But after my first question of what was going on I realised they were on the case and they were busy because they had lots of other clients who they were handling. I have seen transcripts of emails, and within a day of me raising a query, it went through to the other sides solicitors and actions taken without delay. There wasn't always an notification of this fact, but after understanding this I no longer cared for this, they were on the case. You can feel confident they are on it, and just accept that you don't get daily updates because if they did, they would be slower at tackling the true task of getting your transaction sorted. My chain suffered a 2 month delay, mostly due to a solicitor higher up only wanting to be proactive when it was in their clients apparent best interest (such as the chain falling through). Due to this they didn't bother kicking off a simple process of fixing a land registry issue or responding to us in a reasonable time (they took a month between getting information and two chases until they informed us) until we were trying to exchange. If they had done their job two months earlier we would have not had the issue. I have no care to look at other solicitors for when I need to sell again. My first choice is Sharon from Thomson Webb & Corfield without question or care. Just please don't all use her as that would make a conflict of interest (if we both use her) or her getting so busy she can't take me on again! Brilliant, truly brilliant, and I can't recommend them more.

Seemed more interested in billing their client than getting the deal done. Had to sign the same document 4 times and get it notarized 3 times before they were happy. No sense of urgency and no use of modern technology to speed up what should have been a formality.

We have recently used Thomson Webb & Corfield for a complicated purchase and found the service provided to have been excellent, contrary to what other posts have suggested. We would have no hesitation whatsover in recommending them.

I went there today for an appointment to sign an engagement letter and the receptionists were the rudest people I’ve ever met. They made me wait outside under the sun at 2pm with 35 degrees even though I was the only client there (and even mocked me saying that i should be glad because it was sunny). The person I was supposed to meet was not in the office and the one who met me didn’t know what I was there for and didn’t even introduce himself so i had to leave after witnessing such unprofessional behaviour. I really don’t understand why they behave like this but I’m glad I won’t be working with them as my solicitors and I hope other people don’t accept to be treated like that.
