Wonderful. Sums it up really. From the moment you enter you are treated like royalty. It was my partner's birthday and it was recognised in a subtle, grown-up way. No singing waiters but a lovely card and a Happy Birthday plate and chocolate. But that's really beside the point. The food was outstanding. I won't describe it as the menu changes but I would be confidant that anything from this kitchen will be fabulous. Friendly and efficient service - the absolute perfect balance between decorum and friendliness. Can't be faulted.

My partner and I didn't realise when we booked a random getaway to Torquay that most dinners out required reservations. Walking around we stopped at various restaurants with good Google ratings but we were turned away because they were fully booked for the night. When we came upon The Elephant, we were confident they would be booked, having read many good things and the fact they were Michelin rated. Luck was upon us as a table had just opened up. Although we were under dressed, we took advantage of the opportunity and are so glad we did! We were greeted so calmly and kindly before being seated to the table, with an apology that there would be a wait before someone could see to us. The service was phenomenal. The food was superb. The modern British fare was both creative and masterful in execution. The ingredients were very fresh. The wine menu was wonderfully understated and the recommended pairings were perfect. For those who ask (although a seasonal menu), for starters we had a refreshing crab cocktail with mango sorbet and a delightful fresh yet savoury scallop dish. For our mains, we had the plaice with asparagus and apple in a mussel broth and the monkfish with bok choy in a lemongrass and Thai lime basil sauce. We paired these with a seasonal white French chardonnay and ended the meal with a marscapone parfait with strawberries and merengue. We highly recommend The Elephant, it certainly brightened up our trip/day.

incredible . I’m lucky to have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the world and this is really up there. The manager is knowledgeable and the staff charming. Food off the scale with an inexpensive wine list. We loved the food, ambience, experience. Simply brilliant 😊 Don’t miss out😀

Delicious Michelin starred meal in Torquay! Came here to have lunch on my birthday and opted for the tasting menu. Two and a half hours later I can truly say I have had a wonderful tasting experience sampling a range of delicious dishes created from locally sourced ingredients. The wine pairing was fantastic as well. It all just came together beautifully. If you like fine food I highly recommend you give this place a try.

We had the taster menu and the food was nice but when paying £80 per person you expect the wow factor and unfortunately it didn't have. We left feeling very underwhelmed with our experience and expected the food to be premier league for the price we paid.

My wife and I visited for our anniversary. We had an amazing experience. The food was delicious and the service was great. We were welcomed and treated very well. I would recommend to anyone to try at least once. The food options were broad and there was an obvious care for dietary needs, including allergies. Portion sizes, which are often something that gets raised when talking about this calibre of restaurant, wasn't an issue as the food was beautifully presented, rich and balanced which is part of the experience (quality over quantity). The menu prices varied but we found what we wanted to try, of which the options are enough to cater for most. My only suggestion for anyone looking to book, especially if they're vegetarian or vegan, is to check the menu as they will probably change on occasion and this may have an impact. We will more than likely return in the near future.

Oh wow. Just finished lunch for two. Take your time and marvel at the inventive blends of flavours from local food. Classy yet friendly with a sense of being open to young and old, vegan to meat-and-two-veg folk. Loved it from start to finish. Problem now is how to ever again eat cabbage leaves without thinking how they are elevated at the Elephant.

This was an absolutely amazing dining experience! Ok, it is a bit pricier than other restaurants in Torquay but worth every penny. The service was spot on and the food was heavenly. As was the wine recommendation from our waiter. I started with the the-scallops which were so tender and tasty and they’d had the sea bass which was recommended. It was out of this world. As was the cabbage side dish! I usually don’t care an awful lot for cabbage but the way this was prepared made us want more. We finished of with the clotted cream mousse. This cake also recommended and I would never have chose but was so glad I had. It was to die for. If I could I would go here all the time.

Was taken here for an anniversary treat and from the moment you stepped in the door you were warmly treated. The food was excellent and actually quite filling l tried the scallop to start which l have tried in various establishment's, but these were on another level. The whole menu was exciting. Beautiful wine list,. The service was informal but excellent. Nothing was too much trouble It may be a Michelin star but it was not stuffy, it was welcoming and casual . Give it a try you will not be disappointed.
