Wait time at counter was more than 40 minutes. Total time spent getting the car was 1hr 30 mins. Every transaction with every customer ahead of me was more like a negotiation for world peace rather than a simple doc check, sign, keys and go. Agent was pleasant, but charges were confusing. Pre-authorization on credit card is hefty (more than 3x the cost of the rental) which forced me to reluctantly use a credit card with a higher limit for pre-auth rather than the card I use for rewards. The hefty amount also caused a temporary block on that card for “unusual activity” which effectively shut down use of that card for the rest of my trip. Most other rental companies will allow you to switch cards at the end of the rental, but Sixt do not. I don’t know why it is so hard to provide this simple service. Most renters would, I’m sure, be quite happy for the albeit oppressive pre-auth to remain on the original card until Sixt have got their money on the new card. I also returned the car after 2 days instead of the 3 booked. Be careful of doing this! If it is a “package” (hidden somewhere in the small print), they will not credit you with the day, but I guess they are quite happy to double-dip by renting the car to someone else on the day you paid for. Back to Avis I go (reluctantly).
