Great car wash at three levels. I chose the Super Shine Car Wash which had 20% discount and did a great job of cleaning off tree sap and gave the car a good wax. Quick and friendly service. When some manual car cleaning services charge you extra for 4x4’s, it’s all one price at Shell.

My wife filled up our sons car with fuel at Shell Braidburn on the 1st July this year. He drives a VW Polo 1.2 petrol that has a fuel tank capacity (according to the car handbook) of 40 litres. When she got home I questioned how she had managed to put 52 litres of fuel into the car? She said that the cashier had been attending to another customer who required help with tyre pressure on the forecourt and that quite a queue had built up. It seemed to her that perhaps she had been charged for her fuel and also the previous customer perhaps. I contact VW Edinburgh who categorically said that it was not possible to put 52 litres of fuel into a 40 litre tank. I then contacted Shell Braidburn and told them that there was either a problem with the pump or that my wife has paid for another customers fuel as well as her own. I asked them to check the CCTV to prove this. They told me that I should contact Shell Customer Operations UK by telephone initially with a follow up email. They thanked me for bringing the matter to their attention and told me that they would look into the matter and get back to me. A few days later they replied telling me that they had checked the pump in question (pump 4) and that they could find no fault with it. However as a goodwill gesture and as thanks for bringing the matter to their attention they would offer me a £5 Shell fuel voucher. They had overcharged me by at least 10 litres at £1.369 per litre so £13.69 and they were offering me £5 as compensation. Really! Just to prove my point I got my son to run the fuel down to show only 5 miles worth of fuel left in the tank and then returned to the garage to the same pump and filled it up again. Guess what? It took 42 litres to fill to overflow so I had been right all along. What did I do? I contacted Shell Customer Operations UK again and sent them both receipts showing the different amounts of fuel purchased and do you think they relented? Sadly not. They stuck to their original offer of a £5 Shell voucher. This is what I call really bad customer service and I will certainly never use Shell Braidburn again. Overcharge by at least £13 and then offer a mere £5 in return. Scandalous and really bad business practice. Shell have dealt (or not dealt) with this issue terribly badly. To everyone else who reads this all I can say is beware. Either the pumps are extemely inaccurate or you might just be charged for the previous customers fuel as well. I contacted Trading Standards and also Consumer Advice who are both monitoring the situation carefully.

Staff always very courteous. Not a lot of room between pumps and as usual only one LPG pump ... which more often than not is blocked by somebody that could have gone to any one of the other petrol or diesel pumps. Not Shell's fault... just thoughtless customers ☹️️
