Just like way to many are saying the services and treat mint is shocking they probably treat the dogs and cats better in the shelter than they do in the mental health systems as I have said for many years do everything you can to stay away from places like this maybe try to find a charity organization to support you if you can as far as I say you are better speaking to the wall than these people. # mental health care) for all was my goal for 2021, and will remain my goal for 2022 ,
This place needs INVESTIGATED IMMEDIATELY their are doctors in here who have the power to do what they like my twin sister told me this … she’s dead now … after 6 years being in and out of here she took her life (still pending investigation) nearly 6 weeks after being discharged. This place is awful. The nurses are lovely the doctors in here should not be allowed to have the kind of power they have it’s SICKENING
The sad truth is that it wouldn`t matter if the REH received a million negative reviews, nothing is likely to change for the better. Having worked as a nurse there for over 20 years I`ve witnessed the instutionalised culture which prevails in this backward institution. Most of those in senior positions have become more instiutionalised than the patients they`re meant to be rehabilitating and have a vested interest in ensuring that the status quo prevails. Why implement changes for the better when you can have an easy life in the knowledge that you`re accountable to no one? It isn`t a case of the building being shut down that is required, but rather a radical shake up particulalry of those in positions of power. Sadly, due to the stigma associated with mental illness, those with psychiatric daignosis often lack a voice in our society, which means that the abysmal standards of care prevalent in backward institutions such as the REH. are likely to continue for years to come......unless we all fight for change! The book, Swimming Against The Tide is a brilliant account of the appalling truth about Mental Health Care Provision in our country today which I would recommend to anyone interested in mental health to read.
Dr Alison Tulloch will soon be facing real justice Not only has she made it impossible for me to get further therapy from another practitioner or a second opinion or via another therapist. She has been allowed to get away with a racist comment far down under the line of professional conduct . However Dr Tullochs institutional racism might be protected by censorship and a unfit NHS . When I set to work that won’t be enough . Telling patients to go and live with their own kind is not acceptable. . Unlike Tulloch I’ve lived my formative life in Scotland and most of its key stages . How this Australian Dr could have determined I belong in London because people might look more like me is a disgrace and endicment on NHS Scotland.
My mum was in and out of this hospital for years, but I will never forget the last time she was here, as shortly afterwards she took her own life. I lost my mum because the hospital refused to give her the help she desperately needed. She was admitted at the end of February, after a severe episode; she was schizophrenic and clearly couldn’t look after herself. Her house was a complete shambles, she didn’t make sense when she was talking, suffered from paranoid delusions. Before I get any further into this, I would just like to say that some of the nurses are brilliant and amazing here and have been really good and helpful but sadly not everyone is. Anyway, my mum was supposed to be kept in the hospital for 6 months; this was something that had been agreed at a meeting and with her doctor (who even stated that she was a danger to herself) but then on April the 5th, they altered this decision and let her go home early, stating that she was ok to leave, after just two months...she wasn’t. I phoned the hospital as soon as I found out and begged them not to let her out, as she wasn’t ready and was still a danger to herself. You wouldn't have to be a nurse or doctor to see that she was still very unwell and suffering from paranoid delusions. She was saying scary stuff and hadn’t been taking her medication in the hospital. The hospital insisted that she was fine to be released, so there wasn’t much else I could do except accept this decision. So she came out and tried to get settled back into her life, but her mental health unfortunately continued to deteriorate. One month and 13 days later, she ended her life. This could have been prevented if she had been kept in the hospital for the full agreed six months period, or had at least had some care at home...but no care plan had been put into action, and she was left to fend for herself. The hospital ignored my pleas for help when it was clear that my mum wasn’t ready to go home and now my family and I have to deal with the loss of a very loved family member. I wanted to post a review months ago, when it happened, but I thought I would wait until I was ready. I’m absolutely disgusted with this hospital
