We booked this campsite as part of a cost to cost ride. Unfortunately we didn't arrive until late and it all seemed to be quiet. Once we located someone and paid (the price was reasonable). We pitched our tents under a tree and it made the lateness or out arrival worth it. The facilities onsite are great. Shower block is excellent and there is washing facilities for clothes and pots and pans. The location is lovely. Just on the outskirts of York and right on the river. If you're looking for a nice campsite near York, this is with a shout. Also plenty of caravans too.

Really friendly staff, stunning location, great value and showers to die for! Lots of quirky cabins to rent, a fab new restaurant on stilts nearly complete. We were in a tent, were greeted as soon as we arrived, allowed to choose where to pitch our tent, we had a reasonably early night for a Friday evening but I would say so did the rest of the site. We walked along the path by the river to Bishopthorpe. Felt like we were in regency England! Short bike ride to the centre of York, pretty much all traffic free. Very happy with our stay and would 100% recommend.

Nice site ,would be perfect with better management. Okay during the week but come Friday it became really busy. The owner just crammed more and more vans in, there was no room between units, if a fire broke out the lot would go up in flames. The toilet block was only cleaned occasionally by a woman doing it voluntary, it needs a full time cleaner. In the gents toilet block there was only one toilet the other being out of order for 6 days. One toilet for the whole site plus cabins plus people off the moored boats is not acceptable. All in all if they got their act together, improved cleaning and stopped over crowding we would have used it again but as it is I couldn't recommend it. Bishopthorpe itself is good especially the social club. The bus service to York every 30 minutes is great.

Stayed at this campsite this weekend. Nice site, very well situated to visit York. Unfortunately the residents on the site absolutely ruined our weekend. It is obviously a site run and occupied with friends and family and apart from the couple of vans not part of the "family" it was a free for all, the music was playing through speakers from 5pm until 11pm and meant we could not even hear our TV in our van!!! very disappointing as we were hoping to make it a regular. Spent Sunday morning visiting all the other sites surrounding for future bookings.
