My mum doesn’t have Google account so I am writing this on her behalf:
I booked an appointment to have my nails done, for the first time in my life, as my son is getting married tomorrow.
I explained to the receptionist that I had never had my nails done before and therefore I wasn’t sure what sort of nail treatment I wished to have. I asked if I could discuss the various options with the manicurist at my appointment and they didn’t state that this would be an issue. I have naturally very short, brittle nails, which is why I was keen to discuss my options.
When I arrived this evening the receptionist said to me “you’re having gels aren’t you?” I said I wasn’t sure and I would see what the technician thought as I assumed they would be discussing the options as i had previously asked for in my phone call.
I asked the technician for advice about colour and I was very happy to go with her decision. She started to apply liquids to my nails and I wrongfully assumed that this was some form of pre-treatment.
As the treatment progressed I realised that she wasn’t going to discuss options about extensions etc. When I raised this, she said that there was only a 30 appointment booked as extensions would take 90 minutes.
As I had specifically asked that the options be discussed with me, I feel this was a very unprofessional service and I am very disappointed as it was for a very special occasion. I spoke to the supervisor this evening who apologised and said that she wasn’t aware that it was for my sons wedding, so this must not have been recorded when I made the appointment.
She did said that they would redress the issue, which isn’t possible given the fact that I have hair and makeup appointments booked for tomorrow morning. She said that someone would be in touch, and if this is the case I will of course edit this review. (EDIT BELOW)
Additionally, I had wished to change the appointment time. I phoned early on Friday and left a voicemail but when I hadn’t heard back, I phoned again on Saturday morning and left another message. I eventually got speaking to someone on Saturday afternoon when I phone again, but they didn’t apologise for not returning my calls.
Given these two incidents, I feel this was a very unprofessional service and I won’t be recommending Radiance to anyone else.
EDIT FOLLOWING MS MACKIN's COMMENTS:
Firstly, I am deeply ashamed that I spoke loudly to the receptionist and I very much regret having upset her. My husband has since taken, on my behalf, a letter of apology and gift to her, and also a monetary tip for the technician. I was so upset at the time that I forgot to do this after my treatment.
I was very uptight on Monday as it was the evening before my only child's wedding and for many reasons I knew I was going to find it difficult. Also, I had made the salon aware that I had never had my nails done before, so I was quite stressed at that as well. But this is still no reason to be overly disappointed and annoyed and I am very sorry.
However, I do wish to address a few things that you have mentioned:
1. I feel that much of what you have said is unsubstantiated and it would be very interesting to see the CCTV footage.
2. The facts regarding my phone calls are as my original post. I did not call on Saturday to say that I might need to cancel. As I was expecting a return call on Friday or Saturday, I had my phone with me at all times and I had no missed calls from anyone during this period. I also do not have voicemail activated on my phone, so it would be have been impossible for anyone to have left me a message.
3. I would also like to dispute how I “got personal” with the receptionist and what you mean by that.
4. I did say that I would be leaving a review of my experience, as my request for advice prior to my treatment was ignored and my phone calls unanswered. (I did receive one call on Monday afternoon which I missed, but no one attempted to call me again). I don’t have a Facebook account, so I would not have mentioned this to the receptionist.
