My experience of Philips park was very peaceful, there are some off-road terrain features designed for mountain biking. The river Medlock runs through this park and can make for a very serene walk in the right weather. Further east of the park is Clayton Vale, a dense woodland great for mountain biking or possibly a hike. I have also witnessed a helicopter tour taking off from Philips Park so that may be something to look out for.
