I cannot recommend this place and feel that some safety measures need to be conducted ASAP. My experience was awful from start to finish to say the least and I deeply regret choosing to travel here from Stoke for my laser eye surgery.
I paid extra for the Lasik iDesign as I wanted to have the best possible result. When I arrived here, I was asked to sign several consent forms and then I went into a room for the iDesign tests. Once the eye drops were put in, my eyes felt like they were burning and became very red - I was struggling to see anything and the woman doing the tests just tutted at me and found a colleague, who put more drops in. I was unable to complete many of the tests as my eyes were streaming so much, so they were unable to get a proper assessment for the iDesign.
I was then asked to wait in a different room and spoke to with my consultant (Dr Erik De Koning) who barely looked up from his set of papers. After that I went back into the waiting room and then was called into the operating theatre.
Here, one of the nurses quickly went through the procedures and I was asked to lie down. More eye drops were put in and my eyes started to burn again. I tried to put my hand up to ask why this was happening, but they were already starting the surgery. A female nurse very roughly grabbed my head and shoulders to put me into position. As the laser was administered, I felt a sharp pain in my right eye and then the left when it was done. I was struggling to breathe due to wearing a mask and the nurse was holding onto my head.
After, I was feeling disorientated and was taken to another room outside where a woman was talking about aftercare and showing me bottles of eye drops and instruction leaflets - I could barely see anything and was in so much pain! She said my partner needed to come collect me straight away so she phoned him.
I got into the car quite upset and asked my partner to take me home. 15 mins into the journey. I lost vision in both of my eyes - everything went black and the pain was unbearable - I was screaming at this point. It felt like acid had been poured into my eyes. I was blind for 12-13 hours, then had double vision for 24 hours. The pain was horrific.
The emergency aftercare from Optical Express was excellent (from Hanley, Stoke), but when my partner phoned Bridgewater, he was quickly dismissed and offered little help. The staff were rude and didn't care at all.
I had to have about 4 months of aftercare appointments due to complications and 7 months post-op, I'm still experiencing problems with my vision (i't's not 20/20, sometimes blurred) and have developed dry eyes that need drops putting in 4 times a day. I strongly feel that something went wrong during my surgery and the staff at Bridgewater just dismissed it.
