Unacceptable experiences

3.0/ 5

I have been a patient with this practice for over forty years – from a student when MMP serviced Queen Margaret College. I have enjoyed the expertise of Drs Sellar & McPhail; Drs Campbell, Smith, Balfour & Hammill up to the present day with Drs Stutchfield and Bennett. Unfortunately my experience with the admin staff of late has been pretty poor. I have received five prescriptions for other patients, and in the last two years, have had either no prescriptions (after a whole week of waiting) and have had to attend ‘out of hours’ to procure a script for controlled drugs because the surgery let me down on more than one occasion. I have also had incorrect or missing items from my prescription request. How can this be the case when I receive email confirmation or a hard copy along with requested prescriptions??? The last straw was when I was let down for the nth time before going on holiday, having requested my prescriptions more than a week in advance of needing to collect them from the pharmacy. When I complained I was told by the deputy practice manager that it was “my prerogative” and she suggested that I should “find a different practice”!!! I am appalled at being spoken to in this manner by someone working in the health sector and dealing with ill and anxious patients. I have several health issues and rely on such employees to be professional. This person has been anything but! One shining beacon of light is Jayne who has gone the extra mile on my behalf on more than one occasion, when the ‘system’ has let me down. The GPs, nurses and phlebotomist have an exemplary record in my eyes, however the administration of Murrafield Medical Practice needs to get it’s act together!

Impossible to get an appointment, I called for two days in a row at 8 o'clock (as they tell you you should do) they didn't pick up the phone until 8:20, just to tell me that unfortunately they don't have any more appointments left. When I went there for the first time to register, they told me it would take 1 week for the system to register me. After 3 weeks I was not it the system yet. Very happy with health care in this country

Always had great experience with doctors and nurses and one of the receptionists is lovely and very helpful. They lost a star as one of the receptionists is horrendously rude and they all know who she is. No place for people like that on the front line.

Appalling receptionists, never have had a good experience with them and I have been going here for years. It's been my family's go for as long as I can remember. They are rude on the phone and in person. You can't make appointments a head of time even by a day or two, in the rare occasion that you can get one, they are short with you and act like you are a problem. Me and my mother are both autistic and can't handle being around people so we sat in the smaller waiting area by the prescription drop off counter, waiting for our appointment, as we always do. Doctors know we do it and so do most of the nurses. But one receptionists in particular this morning had a problem with this and was trying to get us to move for literally no reason. We weren't making noises or anything, we were politely sitting there minding our business. She starts talking to us from over the counter asking is we can move because we are in the wrong waiting area, saying that we have to move to the big one or listen really hard for the name so we don't miss our appointment. She talked at us like we were little children that didn't know right from wrong. We have sat there before with no problems. Nevermind we were an hour early for the appointment so there was no chance we were going to miss it. I have no problems with the doctors. The doctors and nurses are great and friendly. One is almost a family friend. The receptionists are a huge problem. They need to be trained properly and told how to treat people with respect.

Called them today and was answered swiftly. Staff on phone was professional and firm. Ask me thoroughly about my needs and directed me clearly on what to do. 2 hours later, GP called me and discussed ny treatment plan. He was nice and understanding. Hopefully the treatment works fine. Thank you guys

Incompetent, impatient and rude receptionists who blame all of their mistakes on you. Unhelpful and uncaring, who treat you like an inconvenient nuisance who is a waste of their time. They threaten to hang up on you if you ask too many questions that they can’t be bothered answering. Try and register somewhere else as they don’t care about your health only how quickly they can get rid of you.

If you’re considering this practice, I would recommend you think again and register elsewhere. I haven’t even managed to get past the awful receptionist, who seems to take great delight in telling you “No” and “tough”, refusing any support, judging by the smug look on her face. When you ask Susan anything, a simple question, you’ll be met with a smug face and complete contempt. Really terrible first impression, why would you have someone like this as the face of your practice?! I’ve been told incorrect information by Susan on the registration process, resulting in my application being refused despite following what she told me to a tee and waiting patiently, for a whole month, for the next enrolment. After thinking this had been resolved following a complaint to the practice manager, Susan clearly wasn’t happy they agreed to take me on because of the mix up, and she was down right rude and cheeky to me when I went to hand in my application. Susan, thanks for barking at me with your torn face about where to stand when the reception was completely empty as well, that must have made you feel really good about yourself (bit sad really!). I’ve since had another run in with Susan when I went to collect a friends prescription, she seems to enjoy making everything a drama and difficult for the patient just because she feels like it. I don’t know why you have such a terrible attitude Susan but you’re clearly in the wrong job because you obviously hate people. I’ve now actually had to re-register at my old GP practice only a few days after registering at Murrayfield because I can’t deal with facing this horrible woman every time I need support from a doctor. I really hope management reads this, I’m certainly not the first one reporting this as you’ll see from the number of negative reviews similar to this one, looks like this has been happening for a while now.

A patient of many years, I feel blessed to be with this practice. The receptionists, who are the first port of call are efficient, have good communication skills and a kindly attitude. I feel so fortunate to have Dr Balfour as my GP but in his absence , all doctors in the team are excellent.
