A Disheartening Experience at Macklin Street Surgery: Lack of Empathy and Professionalism

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ My recent encounter with Macklin Street Surgery has left me deeply disappointed and frustrated with the level of service provided. I reached out to the surgery via phone, hoping to receive medical assistance for an urgent issue. However, my experience with the reception staff was nothing short of disheartening. Upon speaking to the receptionist at Macklin Street Surgery, I had hoped to explain my medical concerns and possibly schedule an appointment. Unfortunately, the receptionist seemed uninterested and dismissive from the start. Instead of listening attentively to my situation, they simply redirected me to speak with a pharmacist. While I understand that the receptionist may not be medically trained, it is essential to mention that I had already sought advice from a healthcare professional. Despite being directed by another medical professional to consult with my GP, the receptionist at Macklin Street Surgery refused to acknowledge the gravity of my situation and insisted on speaking with a pharmacist instead. It is concerning that the surgery’s staff, even when directed by other medical professionals, would not consider the severity of my condition and take appropriate action. This raises questions about the professionalism and adherence to medical guidelines within the NHS as a whole. The lack of understanding and clinical knowledge displayed by some individuals can have serious consequences for patients who are in urgent need of medical attention. As a patient, I expect healthcare providers like Macklin Street Surgery to demonstrate empathy and professionalism when dealing with sensitive medical issues. Unfortunately, my experience has shattered this expectation, leaving me feeling unsupported and unsure about my health. The NHS, as a reputable healthcare system, should prioritize patient care and ensure that medical professionals and staff at Macklin Street Surgery are well-equipped to handle various clinical situations. It is disheartening to witness instances where this is not the case, as it erodes the trust and confidence patients have in the healthcare system. I cannot stress enough how let down I feel by the service provided by Macklin Street Surgery. The lack of empathy, understanding, and professionalism displayed by the receptionist has left me questioning the effectiveness and reliability of both this specific surgery and the NHS as a whole. I sincerely hope that this feedback reaches the appropriate authorities and prompts a reflection on the quality of care provided to patients in need

Awful place. Hard to make an appointment, you have to call several times, I used to take my dad to the gp here, and they won't give me the toilet key as I'm not a patient here, and the appointments are always late.. Avoid if possible.

This is really the best surgery that I have been to. The reception staff have always been wonderful with me and the GP's are thorough and so very helpful. I can't thank them enough for their hard work and dedication. Outstanding.

The only issue is the booking system. This morning, I had to call at 8 to get appointment (as usual) and i had to call 136 times in a row, to manage to get through. Once I got through, I was caller "number 17". I have asked The receptionist on the phone , and 5 receptionists out of 7 are off. I do not know if this is because of the new "covid world", that means that as soon as someone is ill they dont come to work (we have the same at my work), but this CANNOT happen to the NHS. I managed to get a "phone call" appointment after having waited for 1 hour. This is only a phone call, although i actually already know i need to see a doctor and get anti-biotic. The main issue here, is that you have to keep calling and press option 1. This is horribly stressful when you have to do other things from 8 to 9 like driving, taking care of things, kids, work. You cannot ask this from patients who are poorly. PLEASE, CHANGE THE BOOKING SYSTEM! Thank you.

Receptionist rude and ignorant, we were stood waiting to talk through the intercom in the doorway outside and she was rude to the person in front of us, proceeded to deal with someone else jumping the queue who was seated already in the surgery despite my waiting and then was rude to me whilst i was explaining who the appointment was with. We arrived 10 minutes before the appointment time as per the surgery rules but didnt get let in until 5 minutes AFTER the appointment time. She said she couldnt hear me in the intercom so i spoke a little louder and then she accused me of shouting at her which i most certainly was not! She then kept saying she couldnt hear me again! 🤦‍♀️ Disgusting attitude from someone who is supposed to behave with compassion, kindness and respect.
