Macdonald Holyrood Hotel – edinburgh

Not a hotel stay but rather a gym member experience. Jamie, at the gym and Margaret and her team have been superb regarding their thorough, efficient and personable service during these much difficult Covid times considering the pressures leisure teams are facing on a daily basis. Thanks to all the team working hard there, and for making a consistently positive, safe experience during these regulations. A proper example to all.

Unfortunately a bit of a disappointment and no great encouragement to getting us back to some kind of normality. Social distancing measures were okay, breakfast was okay but so much was missing: no robes, no bottles of water in the room, no minibar, a couple of tea bags and 2 paper cups instead of a tea tray (and paper cups do not last for 2 days!), and most importantly not enough staff. I appreciate that it's hard to justify a full staff when the hotel is so quiet, but 4 out of 5 times nobody answered the phone on reception. Hopefully things will pick up.

Didnt stay over but had a spa day and afternoon tea which was a nice combination. The spa day was nice and relaxing except that the pool was broken and they couldn't heat it, the massage and facial were pretty good I felt relaxed afterwards but massage wasnt as targeted on sore spots. The staff in the main hotel and restaurant were BRILLIANT and the afternoon tea was one of the best I've ever had the chef even made us coconut milk to go with our tea. Really nice experience would definitely want to come back to the restaurant might give the spa a pass.

Very nice location and clean hotel. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, especially the bar and room staff. Very good drinks at the bar however I didn’t eat there as wanted to see what was in the area as there was so much. Great location for walking to lots of sites and F&B places. Had a very lovely stay, the rooms were exactly as expected with no complications and the beds were comfy. Would go back!

A comfortable stay with large rooms. Had an issue with loose tiles in the shower but didn't affect our stay. Swimming pool and sauna were good, breakfast and brunch were very good. Really friendly staff.

Four of us attended the hotel for an Afternoon Tea. Despite us being the only people in the restaurant we were welcomed with open arms and served with a friendly face. The afternoon tea itself was delicious and there was even a Vegan Sausage sandwich for the two veggies on the table. Very well priced with unlimited cups of tea & coffee which is always well received.

Very central location. Parking was very useful. Hotel room was better than expected in terms of size, views and comfort. The restaurant staff were very good. The ribs starter was delicious, my steak was cooked to perfection but I wasn't that keen on the oven chips. The SPA was smaller in areas but it had all l needed. Breakfast was great. I would go again.

Lovely room comfy bed. Enjoyed the food and wine. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Also enjoyed a massage in the spa. Definitely recommend the dbb and spa treatment break it's great value for money.

Lovely morning at the Spa, manicure done by a lovely young girl. Had a swim, sauna and steam room before heading upstairs for afternoon tea and drinks. Sandwiches nice and fresh, scones jam and cream delicious. Cakes too. Three choices of cakes a gorgeous chocolate slice, a lemon tart and a raspberry chocolate eclair which was not nice!!! The filling was a really strange texture and did not taste very nice. All the staff we came in contact with were professional and polite.
